Can anyone tell me if they eat at a normal pace. I dont mean scoff evetything down in 5 mins but i mean that when you finish a mouthful you put in the next one or do you wait 30-60 seconds between each bites. I hate my dinner being cold!!

I eat at a more normal pace now. I do put my fork down between bites and make sure that everything is properly chewed, but I don't use the Eat Slower app on my phone to make sure I wait 45 seconds in between bites anymore. I did that for the first six months and it was really helpful to me then, but I'm glad my eating is a little more normal now!

I tried the eat slower app, its pretty neat. I should use it more often. Yesterday, I drank too fast and paid for it dearly. Today, I'm going back to using the eat slower app until I can become more accustomed to eating slower. I'm only 3 1/2 weeks post-op. Still learning :)

I know, huh? Everything gets cold. I hate that too. I remember some people in my support groups used to talk about buying a warming plate to put their small dinner plate on to keep their meals warm; some even talked about using an electric candle warmer. I never tried either one. Just kinda got used to everything not being steaming hot :>(.

I know for me, right from the start, chewing slowly and taking time between bites was what I HAD to do so I didn't have any pain or indigestion problems. It is still that way for me three years post-op.

If/when you're back to eating full solid food I think most programs recommend you take between 25-30 minutes to finish your meal. For me, it's been more realistic that Breakfast takes about 15 min; lunch 20 min; dinner 30-40 min.

Our nut told us once we are eating meals. 20 min. No longer. Every 3 hours. So I have a set schedule when I get there.

My doctor is ridiculous. He wants me to wait seven minutes between bites. It's more like a minute and a half at best.

I hear you all, as this is something I'm struggling with myself. 20 minutes to eat a couple of hard boiled eggs? Please. I acknowledge that it's important to eat slowly, though. I will have to go download that app! I know smaller plates and utensils helps. And if there are dining companions, engaging in light conversation between bites helps too. But I live alone so that makes it even more difficult. Though I suppose I could talk to the dog. :)

Be well, everyone.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one struggling with eating a bit fast. I try to chew 20 - 30 times for each bite but it's not a "learned" habit yet. I try not to take normal size drinks of liquid either. It I do it sort of "hurts". Every morning I drink about 4 oz of a Protein drink. About 1 1/2 - 2 hours later I eat an egg with 1/2 slice sourdough bread. I'm getting to many carbs so I need to give up the toast. I can polish off the egg in a few minutes but I try to make it last at least 15 mins. Having a conversation with someone does help. I'm 7 weeks post op today so everything is still a learning curve. :) Still glad I had this surgery. It is NOT the chicken way out for losing weight & don't let anyone tell you it is. It's difficult but I can adjust.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
