...people asking me how long it will take to recover! This isn't a surgery where I just "go back to normal" and move on with my life! It could take months to "recover"!

Ugh, it's just driving me nuts to have to explain to people this process. I get that weight loss surgery is not the most well known thing out there but come on!

Hi it all depends on your body my surgeon said it can take up to 6 - 8 weeks to heel but although I have been off for 3 weeks and go back tomorrow to work I could have went back after my first week, I feel great and my hubby wanted me to wait until after I had my two week follow up with my surgeon and my primary doctor now thats over I go back to work tomorrow. I will be 3 weeks post opt tomorrow where has the time flown, as far as compressed garments my surgeon said that I did not need one although the nurse gave me a stomach binder so I took it off and felt better. Congrats on your choice to be healthy.

My standard answer is "Oh it'll be about a year until I'm eating normally again - but I'm feeling great, thank you" I don't offer any details. That shuts them up (hopefully for a year!)

It takes as long as it takes, every person is different and define "recovery" :)

Lol, I guess I can't let it get to me too much... people in general don't get it. I just wanna be like, well if your stomach was a 1/4 of it's normal size and you had your insides swirled around, how long did you think it would take?!!? Huh??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
