Okay so I've notice quiet a few of you mentioning headaches during preop diets! Is this a common thing ? I've had some bad headaches as well but I suffer from chronic headaches on the best of days just wondering If any one know what to do to avoid them?

AGREED!! They are my favorite too. I hope I still like them after surgery!!!

Same here! Best I've sampled so far,; of course other shakes have more Protein and might keep us fuller longer.

Hi CandyPants81. Basically just the shakes. My surgeon said I should munch on celery and carrots if I get hungry. Really.???! I am cranky and have a massive headache...I gave up coffee so it must be the withdrawal from it. So, I will confess I ate two boiled eggs. I will get back on track for day three. How are you doing?

Don't worry I am struggling too! I had the bad head aches from the shakes the first day. I keep trying not to cheat but lick my fingers after giving my kids food or grabbed one mini-donut when they did! I just suck at this which is why I need to surgery! It's also like the world is trying to sabotage me, my nieces Birthday, then get home and the neighbors bring over cake, then my brother wants to meet for a picnic. Why does this whole world revolve around food? My poor niece is 9 and over weight and my mom have her a box of chocolates for her birthday, seriously! I find that one if my motivators to jump out of bed in the morning was what I was going to have for Breakfast, now I stall because I don't want one of those dumb shakes.

Hello Fellow Navy Mom..

Add me as a friend if you like..

My Son has been in since 2008..

He is a E-5 now and a MA..

He is stationed in San Diego and was just Married in February..

What about yours?...
When are you having surgery? Mine is July 9th and I'm happy , nervous, scared.. I guess every emotion I am feeling it...On the prep phase now and it sucks.. The first 2 days were the hardest.. I broke down and took 2 migane pills for the headaches... I'll be telling my Dr that Monday morning.. Worse of all.. I severly sprained my ankle on the 4th.. Another thing to tell him.. Hope they don't postpone it.!

I also have chronic headaches so I know how you feel! Mine have been worse the last 2 days because I've been on all liquids. Not eating for a while usually makes my headaches worse so that's my guess on why..

@@Elayna01 You might look at other options for a Protein shake. I use Premier in chocolate flavor and I only need 2 each day as they are 30g each.

My doctor said it is because people are dehydrated, but that was not the case for me. They went away eventually, but I only took Tylenol because I was told that one was okay. It helped a little but not my Migraine meds. I red that the sleeve can actually reduce Migraines looking forward to that. Just hoping I don't fail miserably on this liquid diet because I am really struggling. I want to change my life, have energy, be a more active more, and not feel like my life revolves around food. I hope God gives me strength through this process.

My surgery date is July 21st. It's right after my birthday so I'll be 38. I'm going through my insurance, Blue Cross, and aside from a few consult co-pays and the co-pay for my supplements I have nearly no out of pocket, so we are thankful for that.

I also kept it secret until I was scheduled, only my husband, our sons, and our close friend whose wife also had the sleeve knew. I didn't want to be discouraged or freaked out by our family and/or friends worries or horror stories. We also wanted us to get through all of the information and classes without that added stress.

Today I started my Protein shakes. I actually ended up eating half of my solid meal this afternoon because my head has been pounding and I felt so horrible and it actually helped. I will talk to my nurse tomorrow and make sure that it is okay to split my meal as long as I stay within the dietary guidelines.

We are all stocked up on Vitamins, medicine cups, lip balm, lotion, Protein Shakes, non-carbonated no sugar drinks, sugar free Jello and pudding, broth, baby food, etc. I am planning on making ahead meals and freezing them for my husband and boys so that they don't eat junk, although my husband is a pretty good cook, it just gets busy around here.

I'm pretty sure that the next two weeks are going to fly by so I'm trying to pull it all together as quickly as possible.

Good luck everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
