latido 178 Posted June 7, 2014 Confession: I’m terrible with numbers. I see that the post-op puree diet suggests meals which include measurements of both ounces and tablespoons (and cups). Are these interchangeable? For example: 4 Tbsp pureed chicken ½ cup refried Beans 3 oz. yogurt ¼ cup cottage cheese 2 Tbsp yogurt I bought a pack of condiment containers which are marked 2 oz. It took about 3 1/2 tablespoons of tuna, when I measured. I also poured a 2 oz container of Water into my ice cube tray, and it fit perfectly into three cubes. So, if I want to measure a proper serving of Protein, am I safe to assume that whatever fits into the 2 oz cup is considered a serving? Or it depends on which food it is (refried Beans vs. yogurt vs. pureed chicken? ) Thanks!
latido 178 Posted June 7, 2014 Google tells me that 4 tablespoons equals to 2 oz. - so far so good.
JanetteH 80 Posted June 7, 2014 Hi Latido, 4 tablespoons equals ¼ cup but it varies a little in ounces e.g. 4 tablespoons pureed meat is heavier than 4 tablespoons lettuce : ) Saying it's roughly equal to 2oz sounds reasonable for most Proteins. I think they're trying to give us appropriate measurements for each food - there's some things we tend to weigh (meat) and some things we tend to measure in cups (liquids) - a carton of yoghurt is 6oz - so you can eat ½ a container. On the other hand I would tend to scoop cottage cheese out with a measuring cup - so saying ¼ cup makes sense to me. I was told that volume was very important - no more tun ¼ - ½ cup at a time for the first 6 weeks. Otherwise you'll stretch out your pouch. You'll slowly work your way up to around 1 cup. You'll get used to the measuring and later be able to judge it for yourself. I have a small glass bowl I usually eat out of - I know exactly where ½ cup and 1 cup are on it. Good luck! latido 178 Posted June 7, 2014 Okay. So if a meal consists of a 2 oz. container of Protein, I am good to go. I can save the veggies for week 4/5., I guess.
Doing It 4 Them 84 Posted June 7, 2014 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Digital-Bowl-Scale-Black-and-Silver/35854315 I bought these scales at Walmart. They were pretty reasonable and they have a removeable bowl. I also use the 2 oz condiment cups. They really come in handy.
