Anyone lose more than 50lbs in this age group (over 60) ?

Now at almost 1 year I am 125pounds less than a year ago, I will Celebrate my 63 birthday being back in the pants I wore when I was 19. Low carbs, Protein grams over 60 everyday lots of Water, and walking at least 3 times a week. Most importantly no sugar.

I am 64, will be 65 on May 5th of next year. I have not even had the surgery yet (scheduled on 9/29/14) and I have lost 164 pounds since October 3rd, 2013 using just the bariatric diet. I began on that day at 424 pounds. I have not even had regular exercise during this time, since I have two bad knees and a bad back from two MVA's, years of abuse on those knees, and several recent "accidents" at home which hurt my back. Once of the reasons I want to get under 200 pounds is to have the two knee replacements that have been overdue for years now and keep me in constant pain.

If you stick to the diet, there is no way you will not lose the weight. I am proof of that.

I thought I had posted but do not see my post. I have lost 164 pounds now in the last 11 months just using the diet given to me by my bariatric surgeon.

I have not yet had any surgery - am scheduled for the sleeve on 9/29/14.

It can be done - I am 64 years old!

130 pounds, kept off for 2 years now. Protein first, much exercise. Cancer survivor.

Just turned 66. Lost over 60 lbs so far. Hypothyroidism does not seem to matter. I really don't exercise at all outside of my job but the weight is slowly coming off. My surgeon has had me on a low carb/high Protein diet which I follow fairly close.

I am 64.5 years old. I lost 170 pounds BEFORE being sleeved on September 29, 2014. Since then I have dropped another 30 pounds. While it is true that our metabolisms slow down as we age (assuming we do not compensate by increasing exercise, lowering calorie intake and so on), it is possible to lose a significant amount of weight even past age 50.

I am pretty sure that the closer we all get to our goal weight, the harder it will become, but that does not mean that it is not possible to achieve.

I'll be 68 the first part of Jan. and just had my 2 year check up. Bmi now 22, compared to 41.2. Started at 225.5 and yesterday at doctors was 122.2. I don't exercise like crazy, but still make sure I get at least 60 grams of Protein a day, and 64 ounces of Water, which includes Decaf coffee. Even through stress and holidays, I have been able to maintain. I do still have Protein shakes as I still only eat such a small amount at a time. Put powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chocolate in my coffee with some milk first to cool it down. Trying a different Protein, Body Logic that my surgeon now carries because it contains Stevia instead of aspertane. (Not sure of the spelling)...All my blood-work was great, but cholesterol was a little higher. Controlling with diet rather than statin, off high blood pressure meds, and Celebrex. Osteoporosis has gotten worse though due to how my body is using the Calcium even though levels are fine. Feel so much better, and can do so much more!! You can do this!!

My doctor said weight loss could be slower when you have hypothyroidism and are post menopausal. You will lose weight but not as fast. Just be patient with yourself

I've been hypothyroid for at least 40 years. I was sleeved at age 68. I've lost 100 pounds and been maintaining at 135 for over a year.

i am 65 and have lost 75 ibs in 5 mo.s but slowed down now. my goal is 30 more but it slowed.

I am 63 and have lost 125 post sleeve 2012. Gained back 20 or so because of some meds and off. track. Am back on track and losing again. I hate exercise and have limitations anyway. So i don't believe it is a one for all requirement.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
