I got home yesterday. My surgery was Thurs. The pain I am experiencing is in sharp in my back and chest area. Is this the gas everyone was talking about. It hurts to walk, I am taking the gas x strips and trying to walk. Someone please tell me any other ways to make this pass. I am not a complaining baby type but this has got to go. HELP!!!

Yes. It sounds like gas. That was the worst pain for me and I was miserable, too! I did not find the GAS-X strips helpful. I used chewable gas tablets that my Dr prescribed, but you can get them OTC. That, and walking/laying on my left side/sitting up and changing positions often helped. It was bad for about 5 days, then slowly subsided. Oh, a heating pad helped, too!

GasX only helps with intestinal gas. What you have is gas they pump into your abdomen for visualization. Walking and moving is the only way to help your body absorb and dissipate this gas.

I second kindles answer. Gas x is absorbed in your intestines, it's not gonna help your cavity gas although it sounds good in theory. Play "Jersey Shore" and get your fist bump going as often as needed, walk, do any movement that you can. Day 3 was the worst day for me with any of the pain and day 4 on out was big improvements, hope yours is the same.

When I left the hospital I asked the nurse how long that would last and she said it depends. Most of mine has passed but she said some people still complain a week later. She only recommend walking to me. :(. Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you for your input! I find this forum so helpful. They gave me liquid Tylenol w/Codine to take at home from the hospital yesterday. It was so nasty that I threw up both times I tried it yesterday. So no pain aide for the night, I hardly slept etc. I just now left Kaiser ER, They gave me a shot of morphine and a bag of fluids and sent me home with morphine for my pain as well. It still hurts but at least now I can walk through it.

Walk walk walk even if it hurts when u do it that was the key for me for that horrible pain to go away! I walked 3 times a day for about 15 to 20 minutes the first 2 weeks. The pain is temporary it will pass! Stay strong!

I was sent home from the hospital with Roxicet...I don't know that I could have kept walking without it. Also, a binder or compression band helped immensely those first few days (I had a few pair of compression-top yoga pants that I wore walking, and it kept things from shifting too much) I think day 4 was my worst day...mostly because I walked too much on Day 3 and I felt like my insides were going to fall out the next day (that's when I discovered the compression pants)

By Day 6, most of the pain had subsided and I felt a hundred percent better than I had. That gas pain is horrible :/

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
