Sherra O. 2 Posted June 7, 2014 My surgeon recommends four weeks off work but financially that isn't possible. With my band, I was banded Thursday and returned to work Monday. How long do I need to plan to stay home?
McButterpants 2,846 Posted June 7, 2014 I telecommute full time - I had surgery on Thursday and worked 1/2 days starting the following Monday (that Tuesday I put in a full day). If I had to go back to an office and work, I would have taken 7-10 days off. I got tired easily those first 10 days and it was nice to be able to rest when I needed to and I could walk when I was ready. I flew home 10 days after surgery with no issues. Best of luck to you! misslisa906 7 Posted June 7, 2014 I thought I could go back at two weeks. Then I couldn't get myself out of bed at two weeks long enough to even get ready. So I waited another week and was determined to go back at three weeks. Actually made it in the door this time. Worked for two hours and couldn't do anymore. So I tried again at the four week mark and have been great ever since every person gets their energy back at different times and your surgeons office should work with you along with your employer. What good are you to them if your passing out or falling asleep or just not able to do your job duties efficiently. Good luck!!
MKCMom 17 Posted June 7, 2014 I took a week off. The first few days back, I was really tired and wishing I had more time off, but still did OK. I was pretty much back in full swing by the following week.
KevinHagberg 1 Posted June 7, 2014 Give yourself two weeks. While you might feel up to returning earlier, your body will be weak following your pre-op and post-op liquid diet and the stress of the surgery itself. It is a good idea to wait until after your post-op follow up with your surgeon before returning to work.
joatsaint 2,814 Posted June 7, 2014 I've read posts saying they were back at work at 3 days post-op. I was off for 8 days including the weekends before returning to work. I was feeling kinda weak, but not in any pain. I have a desk job and don't really have to move around except to take bathroom breaks.
msfitn2014 248 Posted June 7, 2014 My dr took me off for 3 weeks...I really wanted to go back after a week because I was bored and ready to go back to my normal routine!! I did get paid during the 3 weeks off though
msfitn2014 248 Posted June 7, 2014 My dr took me off for 3 weeks...I really wanted to go back after a week because I was bored and ready to go back to my normal routine!! I did get paid during the 3 weeks off though I also have a sit down desk job, the sitting all day made me sore, so I took my 2 15 min breaks, 30 min lunch and several bathroom breaks and walked around to keep from bein sore and help with blood circulation
mamasanch 22 Posted June 7, 2014 It can be done. Had surgery on a wed. Went back to work on Monday. I have a desk job and am the boss so I took it easy no lifting and worked 1/2 day for a coulle of days As long as you have a place to rest if you need to. You won't know if you can till after surgery everyone recovers differently. Good luck. 1 mooncat reacted to this
lylabelle 257 Posted June 7, 2014 I do nails, so a desk job but not totally un-physical. I had to go back at 6 days (would have LOVED more but not possible). I took it easy, with just 3 clients, the next day 5 and 7 clients yesterday. I made it through but it wasn't until yesterday that I even considered not taking a pain pill to get through it. So as long as you have a pain pill to help with the discomfort, I think you are fine at a week or so. 1 Sherra O. reacted to this
goodbye 5 Posted June 7, 2014 I'm wondering the same thing except I'm a college student. I'm taking only one class this summer from 1-5pm, three times a week. Will one week off be enough for me to return back to school. I'm more worried about the pain than anything else.
sleeve30 33 Posted June 7, 2014 2 weeks... I'm one week out and I'm glad i'm taking two weeks. No energy!
Bostonie 4 Posted June 8, 2014 I was sleeved on 5/28. My Dr said up to 4 weeks, but we will see how I feel after 2 which is my follow up. I wanted to get back to work asap, but then I was told I should take a few more days to really concentrate on the diet. Plus now that I have been home for a while plus the nice weather finally, I will admit, im enjoying it )
BLAKQUEEN 33 Posted June 9, 2014 I have been told by my doctor 4 wk. I also work a desk job, but a stressful one, so I plan to take all of the 4. I had my surgery on June 2 and I have had bouts of pain and tiredness. I also have pain to sitting at a desk for hours typing. So take at lease 2 weeks off, you need time for your body to heal and get use to new diet.
