....to be satisfied ...not FULL.

I've been banded 2 weeks today ...and I had a lightbulb moment this evening after my 3rd meal of the day. I realized that I now officially eat to be satisfied and not full. As a matter of habit, this is definitely a first for me. At first I kinda missed that feeling of being FULL after a meal. But now I'm in the groove of eating sensible portions which satisfy me for a few hours...and I'm absolutely, completely 100% OK with that. I'm supposedly in 'bandster hell' at this stage, don't feel much restriction, but I think I've already gotten used to the smaller portions and about 800-1000 cals a day. I don't know exactly how to put into words what I'm trying to say...I guess I'm just saying I feel confident and comfortable with this new way of eating...and it's something I should have been doing my whole life! I dunno...maybe it wasn't possible before because there were no immediate, painful consequences of overeating.

I would say the biggest help has been knowing that if I eat more than a cup of food (mushies) I will be in trouble. In this way alone the lap band is truly a wonderful tool. I have no desire to be in trouble. The desire to avoid trouble far outweighs any desire to stuff my face. I can only imagine that when I get filled it will be even better...that any hunger I am experiencing now will be better controlled with restriction and more solid food.

I AM PUMPED, I TELL YA!! PUMPED!!

Terry,

Hip hip horay, hip hip horay for the band!

I know this rush that you are getting.

Maybe you are feeling that YOU are in control not what is in the kitchen?

The band makes it possible for me to eat like I am on a diet but not feel like "that's all I get?" and "I want MORE".

I feel so at peace with my relationship with food. In fact it has really moved down the list of important things in my life.

I am ashamed but today I had to throw some things out because I had let them get stale. No matter how good you contain it sometimes it just loses its crunch. I was still in the old me shopping mode. Along with knowing how much to put on my plate I need get better at shopping for my band.

Best wishes and continued success,

edie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
