Hi. I am looking for suggestions on which scale to purchase. I looked at Consumer Reports and the scales they rated only went up to 300 lbs. What kind of scales do you use? Do you like the ones that also show body fat percentages? Electronic or mechanical (old fashioned kind)?

Hi BigGirl,

I have an ordinary scale - most only go up to 300 lbs (I have always been under that). I suggest you Google scales for whatever you need - there are a few that go up to 400 lbs but more than that (e.g. up to 500 lbs) you get into very expensive ones I'm afraid. You won't have a big selection I fear. Personally I do not like the ones with BMI - I prefer just weight. Good luck! When was your surgery?

Janette

I bought a "biggest loser" scale at Target. I have had it a few years but it's awesome. It goes up to 400lbs and maybe even 450.

Do you remember how much you paid for it.

I have the fit scale that goes with my fitbit and corresponding software It tracks my BMI and also my weight loss progress. Up until now, it has been a dismal graph on my computer. But I expect to see it looking much better after my surgery!

I got a Taylor they are the best, its reviews are very good and it is accurate and cheap lol and it comes with a battery that probably wont ever need to be changed unless you weight yourself 30 times a day lol and it goes up to 400 pounds.

I got this EatSmart scale and absolutely LOVE it. It goes up to 400 lbs. and comes with a measuring tape. You don't have to tap it to come on, so you just stand on it and it records your weight! AND it's only $28.95. I'm really happy with it.

Thanks for the suggestions! I went on eBay and found the models suggested. I looked at several of them and ordered one.

The Taylor brand, clear glass model is the best and most accurate. But we're on our second one.

Pre-surgery I broke our first one. I was too heavy for it. I had to read it after I stepped off it. I tried reading it while standing on it, pre surgery, and my toes caught it and flipped it in the air, like a tiddly-wink and it crashed into our shower-base and the glass broke. I can laugh at it now, but it wasn't funny at the time.

Anyway, I believe how I look to myself and how I feel about my success is more important than how much I weigh.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
