Band slipped for a 2nd time!!!

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post-op for a 2nd re-do. This is not funny anymore. I am behaving but I have lost very little weight. I am about 20 lbs from my goal weight and had lost alot in the few months preceeding the surgery. It is so great not to be nauseated all the time though. The thought of taking it out completely scared me but I really would not be a happy camper for this to occur again. The last time was 2 yrs ago. I bought a cookbook for weightloss surgery patients that I am hoping will inspire me. I do need tightening or an appetite surpressant though. I am eating watered down oatmeal and loose eggwhites with cheese in addition to lots of Soup. wine goes straight to my head and I wake up hungover...so where is the pleasure I ask. I have not lost more weight but the only thing to show for this inconvenience is not having to schlep the groceries into the house and not vomiting.

I'm so sorry! I had one slip and live in fear of #2. I was totally unfilled AGAIN today and I swear I've been following the rules to a tee this time. Hopefully, you are covered by insurance! I was self-pay. Best of luck in your healing and with the rest of your weight-loss journey.

:omg: thank god for insurance. The only bill i got was from the hospital for the telephone in my room. You and I are about the same size with the same goals. What fills you up and do you eat Breakfast? I have been trying to drink more Water lately but then end up looking for bathrooms all day. I probably need a fill but won't be going back for another 2 weeks. I think I will call and get an appetite surpressant. :hungry: It is a crazy busy week though and I guess the stress of it all is not working in my favor. My daughter is having her bat mitzvah in 2 days and I think it is more work for me than her!

heidi,

that's terrible about TWO slipped bands. i am getting an endoscopy today to find out, more definitively, if my band has slipped. the esophogram was not clear enough.

did you have to have an endoscopy to look at band? or was it clear from the esophogram? what caused the slipped band--in your opinion? i think mine may have slipped because of a violent vomiting incident last week--when i was out of town on a business trip--i was stressed out--took a few bites of something--and before i knew it--was throwing up (or trying not to) in an elevator. ugh.

i dread thinking about re-doing this surgery. i only had it (for the first time) in january.

really NOT a happy camper at the moment...

congrats on your daughter's bat mitzvah! l'chaim!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
