Yet another newbie

Howdy! I went to a seminar last night with my hubby. The seminar is the first step on the road to my LB. I rushed home, completed the paperwork and faxed it in before I went to bed. I've already heard from my assigned patient advocate. She has assured me that we'll know something from the insurance company within the next 1-2 weeks.

Fortunately, we've got good insurance. Whew! So, maybe we'll hear back REALLY soon. With a BMI of 43.3, plus a couple of comorbidities, I don't think approval will be a problem.

I'm 42 and have been MO for 20 years. I also have Crohn's disease, but have had it under control for about 8 years now. All doctors, PCP and gastroenterologist, are all on the same page about me losing weight. I, like many of you have tried oh sooooo many diets. It seems WLS is my last ditch effort. I want to make sure I get the right one for me.

My question to the "old-timers" is: Are you still happy with your LB, or do you wish you'd gone with one of the gastric bypass surgeries?

Any and all responses are welcome. Thanks so much for your time.

Holly,

Good luck.

Your weight before and after is really close to mine.

I was able to go off my diabetic shots 3 mos after surgery.

I feel like I have finally ended my yoyo dieting. I feel like I have control over my food addiction now.

I started walking 1/2 mile in 35 minutes and built up to 4 miles in 1 hour and 5 minutes with my weight loss. Of course that helped me reach my goal in 8 mos.

Best wishes with your insurance.

Thanks, Edie. Wow! You look great. I'm so anxious to get this done so that I can get on with my life; my HEALTHIER life! I know I'm going to look and feel so much better.

Have you had to have any plastic surgeries? I'm already getting concerned about any excess baggy skin...I'm not a spring chicken anymore, and know that my skin isn't going to snap back like it used to.

Thanks again for the welcome and encouragement ;)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
