Suffolk, Virginia & surrounding residents

Recommended Posts

My husband was asked to consider a job transfer to Suffolk, Virginia. I'm looking for residents of the area for advice and guidance. Would you recommend Portsmouth or Chesapeake over Suffolk? Which schools do I need to stay away from? My kids are middle school & high school ages. Not sure if we're ready to plant roots in the area so considering 3 bedroom / 2 bath town homes or apartments for the first year. Any recommendations there?

I'd stay away from Portsmouth. I lived in VA Beach for 5 years during and year after college. Portsmouth was pretty rough.

Suffolk, I've driven through going to and from and there's one really good movie theatre over there haha. It seems pretty rural/less developed than the other cities.

I lived on the Va Beach/Chesapeake city line for a year and really liked the area. It was diverse, but its wasnt a bad area by any means. A little further in Chesapeake, its VERY nice.. I had a friend who went to Great Bridge HS, and from how she was raised, it seems like it would have been a really nice public HS. Something I wouldn't mind my own kids going to now. I really love that area down there.

I cant tell you about school systems, since I was obviously in college, and didnt go to schools in that area growing up.

I didn't but I sent you one. Oscar Smith is alright. I can ask the cops what they think if you want. LOL. Western Branch, Greenbrier, Hickory and Great Bridge are pretty good. Not a lot of trouble in Ches. P town is a bit more limited.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
