I looked up Aussie lapbanders and went there first, but at least I found this forum! :D Better late than never.

I've been trying to get a lapband since my doctor told me about it when I was 16. It was young, yea, but I was already 120kgs at that point... anyway, we did all the rituals you have to do and thought that I was on the waiting list. I was about 17 when that happened, and because the public waiting list at the time was 5-8 years long, we weren't so worried about age.

I found out last year that I wasn't on the waiting list at all so I got myself put on it again, met a new surgern, and now I am on the waiting list. Plus it looks like the waiting list times have changed because the estimate is before the end of the year for me. I weight around 163kgs at the moment. It's not the heaviest I've ever been, last year I was 167kgs. And earlier this year I was 151kgs. So... I'm just see-sawing around on the spot while I wait! And I figured that I should probably get into research and talk to people a bit more, seeng as the surgery is about six years earlier than I expected it to be.

My sister had the band... but I think she abused it a bit and it slipped. So I'm not sure if she's had it removed or if she's just had it adjusted. And my Dad's partner has the band, but she has a bit of trouble with it. Apparently she vomits after most meals? She told me that she had no choice in it, they put it in her without her agreement for some reason and she had to pay for it? I'm not sure how the legal system works but I hope that isn't possible. But at least it means I have two living lessons in what not to do. ;D

Pfew. :faint:

So here I am. XD Weight and battling the system aside, I'm a 21-year-old student in Victoria, Australia, I'm studying to become a writer and maybe get into the publishing/editing industry. And I love to do artwork, and read, I love all kinds of music. And sciance! I also like politics but it was never something I wanted to do- you can't make a difference in politics.

And um, yea. o.o I'm just ranting away here. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be saying. But hi! Hopefully I'll soon join the ranks of the amazing shrinking banders!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
