Surgery 6/20/2014 - Tomorrow is the first day of my new life

Recommended Posts

I met for my pre-op appointment today, and I start my two week liquid diet tomorrow. I'm so excited, but yet worried that I will fail. As with previous weight loss attempts, I had all good intentions. I'm going to be band and determined to succeed!!

What did you not crave after you were healed from surgery?

Banded 12 weeks ago. Don't crave fast food anymore. Or soda, but I was an infrequent soda drinker.

I'm not a soda drinker either. My weakness is cake and other sweets.

The Pre Op diet is the toughest.... After the band - cravings are a very small factor. I'm only I week post op.... I am fascinated at the lack of craving of anything. I want to eat what I'm supposed to and that's it. It's remarkable

I'm down 4 lbs and the thought of knowing it won't come back is just awesome! It keeps me motivated.

Like you, I crave sweets. I could care less about soda pop, alcohol, fried foods etc. I only occasionlly have a few bites of fast food. But sweets ? Oh yeah, they've got my number, especially if its crunchy sweet. Anything chocolate/pb/nuts = kryptonite ! I find that if im full of healthy Protein, I crave sweets way less. Right now im having Belvita Breakfast biscuts and a little turkey Jerky, this is my usual breakfast, helps keep me from most sweets. Hope your 2 week liquid goes smoothly for you, you CAN and WILL succeed with your WLS ! Being banded was the BEST thing I did for myself, I just came back from a 2 mile run a few minutes ago . Two and a half years ago I could only walk the same course, now im ( sloooowly) running it ! How cool is that ? Good luck ! You got this !!!!

Hi my surgery is June 23 and I too feel I will fail at times. What keeps my head up is the fact tht this is a actual procedure and I'd hate to have it done and it just be a useless device not utilized just hanging out inside me. Good luck to u.

@@momma2vincent and @@Zoco --- get that fear of failure out of your vocabulary!!!

You made the decision to have this surgery to change your life for the better and failure is not and will not be an option.

It is hard in the beginning and fear of what you can or cannot have ever again is daunting at times.

Well, let me tell you, I can still have whatever I choose…just in much lesser quantities…and I do. I do not deprive myself…i do not diet….and life is SO much better.

My cravings for all things sweet and fast food all but disappeared….the sweet one came back a bit but I control it and live my life.

This was the hardest decision I have ever made (to have WLS)…….AND THE BEST!

My advice…take one day at a time…follow your doctors rules to a "T"….call your doctor if in doubt or if you have questions….give yourself time to heal (it is surgery after all)….do NOT be a slave to a scale….take it one day at a time and one pound at a time….it took me 44 years to hit my max and although it will not take me another 44 years to get it off it will not happen overnight either…..but with hard work, determination, and belief in oneself…it just may happen quicker than you think.

I have been blessed so far and truly take it one meal and one day at a time…so far….so good!

I have a whole new lease on life and living and its not just about what I can consume anymore.

Wishing you all the best….

Thank you! I'm glad I made the decision. I've been wanting this since 2008. The struggle is real, but I know I will get to the top of the mountain.

With that attitude you will go far. All the things you think are potential pitfalls will become secondary to the success you feel and see on a daily basis!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
