I am scheduled for surgery on Wednesday June 11. Only 6 more days WOOHOO! :D My pre-op diet consists of 3 Protein Shakes a day and all the Water I want. I am now ending day 9 of the pre-op. 10 days ago I weighed 332 and today at my dr appt I weighed 317 - down 15 pounds.
I have not cheated once - not even licking my fingers after fixing my 8yo something to eat. Now it is starting to become real difficult. There are 6 other people in my house -4 of them are adults. So someone is always cooking something and if not the one or both of my boys are eating something or the other. My daughter is 23yo and loves to try new recipes. Today she made homemade bread and fresh strawberry pie. She is not trying to be mean or anything. I understand they all have to eat. It is now just becoming more difficult to ignore. I woke up this morning extremely nauseated. My dr told that was to be expected from here up to the day of surgery. Now my stomach just simply hurts constantly (also to be expected). If I do very much I become weak and tired but I'm gonna try to get outside tomorrow and stay busy. Any other suggestions?

Becky

I feel for you Becky. Pre and post op were the worst for me and I live alone so no one was cooking if I wasn't cooking. I'm in awe of you and others who stick to the program when others are in the house and seemingly eating all the time.

I don't have much in the way of suggestions...you just have to get through this...and be able to say no even after you are eating real food again.

All I can do is show you my before/after pic. I'm down almost 130 lbs. and that's only a few lbs. less than your goal. If it helps, try to put yourself in the after pic and know that this could be you in 18 months.

Hang in there and good luck on your weight loss journey.

Okay three Protein shakes and Water is reeeeeally low calories. Can you ask the doc if he will allow a fourth shake? If not then try not to drink right after the shake. Sounds dumb but when I would drink my Water before my liquid meal, wait about fifteen minutes, then drink the Protein Shake and nothing after it, it satisfied me longer than if I flushed it through with water too soon.

Try it and see if that helps. And maybe just phone them to see if you understood the preop rules correctly. Sounds very low to me. Unless the shakes are over 200 calories each. Mine are more like 100 or 120.

Good luck.

I was allowed sugar free Popsicles. Sounds lame, but they really helped. Maybe your doc would allow them?

Hi Becky, you're almost there! The purpose of the pre-op is to reduce fat around the liver and make it easier to place the band. Everything gets moved out of the way and you want there to be room for the surgeon to work. It helped me to know that for the first time ever the weight I was losing on ore-op is weight I would never see again (unlike all the diets I went on).

I agree you should call the doctor's office and let them know you're having a hard time, can you add a shake or have Popsicles, etc., but also some one has to cut out the in-house bakery -- that's not okay. Yes, they have to eat but that is too much. Let your daughter know you need her help. She can be your personal chef later but she needs to understand where you are now.

Hey Becky,

I'm right there with you! I'm on the Bariatric Advantage shakes... 150 calories/24 G Protein and am allowed 5 shakes a day. It seems like all I do is make a shake and get it down. It has been very hard, especially around dinner time. I have allowed myself a couple of graham crackers to make it through, and I gotta say, they taste as good as a pizza! Ha. After three days, I've lost 6 pounds and am pleased to see that the sakes and compliance are doing there thing.

I have 11 more days. Excited, slightly anxious and ready.

Keep up the journey and smile along the way!!! We are in this together. Keep busy and best thoughts forward!

CC

Thaks everyone. I am actally allowed up to 4 shakes a day but I do good to get 3 down Its not a point of feeling hungry because amazingly I haven't. I guess its mlwillpower. Like I said I have not cheated in the slightest, but when you start smelling things like homemade bread baking, pizza in the oven, or even pancakes you start to wonder is 2 full weeks without any food at all really necessary for surgery. I know my liver has to shrink. Sometimes, I just dont want to leave the kitchen while the rest of my family is in there. Staying busy today helped alot and I plan on being busy tomorrow inside and out because no matter what I will NOT cheat.

Hello there. I start my 2 week presurgery diet on June 16th and I am not looking forward to it at all. It will be my most stressful time of the school year with final exams for about 120 students and grading them and getting final grades in for the year. My surgeon said to drink 3 shakes daily and have 1 low carb high Protein meal daily. I can also have sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles in between. I am looking forward to starting it so I can finally get my lap band surgery but it's going to be hard giving up real food for a while. I think I will feel lost and not know what to do with myself. It seems like everything revolves around food. I get fast food 2x weekly and go out to eat once weekly. This all needs to stop and is going to be hard buy I have to do it. My 6 yr. old daughter and 8 yr. old son have weight issues already because of my poor choice of diet. So I hope this helps all of us in the end. Good luck to all who are doing the presurgery fast and finally changing our lives for the better.

@@Georgeann806, you can do this. We are all here for support. Kudos to you for recognizing the benefits of this not only for yourself, but for your kids. Pre and post op seem like long ordeals but they really are just a blip in the grand scheme of things. Before you know it you'll be living the banded life and feeling so much better. It's so very worth it and so are you. Welcome and stay connected.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
