Yes! Way to go! I am happy to not have contributed to the soda $$$ machine any longer.

I also miss Chinese buffets! Eating popcorn at the movies will be missed as well. I can still gulp Water, but can only eat a cup of food. Guess I'm lucky? I am finding ice cold drinks hard to drink...more due to temp and it making me feel tight. I was also a gamer! Kinda bored with what's out there now, which is probably a good thing. Lol

About the Chinese buffet... My local grocery store has a fresh sushi and Chinese food buffet. Usually noodle, rice, egg rolls, and at least six different Entrees. You buy it by the pound. I can select whatever combo of meats, veggies and flavors I want. The smallest container lasts me 3 meals. It's the greatest invention ever!!

As for what I miss....I thought I would miss beer and whiskey, but I really don't. It's nice being the only sober one with no hangover after most parties. I eat anything I want (in moderation), so there are no foods to miss.

I'm sure the pizza joints already did that the year before I surgery. We had a year long monitored diet. I dropped 30-35 pounds or so. Pizza was one of the things given up but Jason's Deli more than made up for that. LOL.

half way through all these posts and thought I would add some thoughts.

in preparation for pending surgery, I have quit drinking (95% less than before)(I may have a drink tonight to enjoy the fireworks), also quit soda too. switched over to non-carbonated drinks like iced tea.

I have heard this said before... "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"

I think for me it will be emotional or mental battle more than physical.

I havent had surgery yet, but the one thing I will miss the most is my large size. I wont really be able to intimidate people, sounds weird now that I read what I typed. I guess its an ego thing or macho image im not ready to give up yet.

It sounds like you will have to explore other sources of your own "strength." It's a big subject, and one worth exploring.

Best to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
