Hi I'm Jessie, 49 yrs, 160lbs, 4'11" and I'm having the Plication at OCC Tijuana with Dr. A Ortiz and Dr Martinez on July 23rd. After much research, and family and friends first hand experience I decided to use OCC.

I had my surgery on the 17th of June here in the US, but since my daughters insurance was denied, she will have to self pay... Thus the route through Mexico. I have been very appreciative of the candid feedback from this group who have already had first hand experiences with the surgeons in Mexico. Honestly, it is a very big decision and all information available should be reviewed before the decision is made. The fluffery on the various bariactric web sites can be a nice read, but actual experiences from all of you is what I believe to be the truth in all of it! So thank you for responding to these posts!

For now we have looked strangely at Aceves and Pompa. I am curious if anyone has specific feedback on the facilities, care, etc on either of theses drs. Most importantly, did they perform as promised.... Was the facilities up to date and clean, was staff attentive, and was dr everything you had hoped for in expertise?

I am probably more cautious here because it is my daughter I am sending down. She is everything in my life, and if can't imagine life without her. I want the best for her obviously and do not want to set her up with a dr who plays any bait and switch games.

I really do appreciate any feedback you all can give me. We are looking for a July date, so we must make our final decision. this week! She is very unhappy in her body and I am so looking forward to seeing her gorgeous smile again once she is on the other side of this journey.

Hi JJ. I understand. I was in your shoes a few months ago. Picking a surgeon for myself was not easy. I have heard good things on the surgeons you mentioned, they were also part of my narrowed list. But I have chosen Dr. Jose Rodriguez and Dr. Elmo, with BeLiteWeight company because I have about 5 acquaintance and also friends who have used them.

Another thing for me was that I did not want to be sent to a hotel with a drain and did not want the back and forth trip between hospital and hotel.

I will have my surgery at Hospital Angeles where I will be staying 3 pre sugery and discharged home on my 3rd day post op.

I was able to get personal feedback from almost 30 of his patients and feel comfortable at this point.

My next choice would have been Mexicali with Dr. Alvarez but I leave in California and San Diego was the closest with no Flight required.

My advice would be to choose the surgeon you feel that is the right one for you and go with your instinct.

Feel free to PM me anytine.

Rose.

I mean Tijuana, Should i land in Los Angeles then take a bus or train or is there any direct flight? I still don't know my date as i've not even chosen the surgeon yet, hope they won't be overbooked, i only have july and august free. Thanks !

Fly to San Diego and the surgeon usually has a driver that picks you up

Hello

I had a great sleeve experience with Dr. Aceves on June 16. Can you please tell me what are your follow up plans with a local bariatric specialist in the us now that you are home? Did you have any trouble since you had the surgery in Mexico? I am asking this because I was in the ER two nights ago (internal hemorrhoid not related to surgery) and the ER doctor was asking me all sorts of questions as to my aftercare I have planned now that I am home. He made it clear to me that although I can get a referral to a bariatric specialist, the doctor may not accept me as a patient since I had surgery in Mexico . Thoughts?

I had surgery here in the states June 17th. My daughter will be having her surgery in July in Mexico. I will follow up with my family dr and see if he is willing to follow stats and other requirements for her as well. If he says no, I find another dr for all of us! I see him on the 1st of July. If anything the urgent cares around here can at least order blood panels and to general follow through.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
