Hi :). I am having surgery June 16th and I announced my surgery last weekend. I was ready for the negative comments but have gotten nothing but tons of support.

I've only told a few people pre-op because I didn't want to hear all the horror stories -- I've read a lot of negative stories online and talked with my doctor about complications so I feel like I'm making an informed decision, I just didn't want my surgery decision to be up for popular vote by everyone I know.

I do plan on telling people after but held back some pre-op.

I did the same thing. I didn't tell anyone in my family no one knows about my surgery except for my husband, my mother and siblings. Other than that no one else. It'll be a surprise. This is a major step and it's something very special. I didn't want anyone to ruin or steal my shine for myself. So I kept it to myself. I'll know when the time is right

I'm having a little bit of a hard time with this with my mom. She knows I'm having surgery and I told her it's for hiatal hernia (which is true) but I haven't told her about the bypass. The problem is my dad has a hiatal hernia and is in the hospital right now for unrelated stuff so we're talking daily (she lives across country). It's been about 2 years since I've seen them and I've gained about 20 pounds in that time -- just pushed me over the limit for surgery.

She's suspicious and keeps asking me about the surgery because she knows that they don't operate on hiatal hernias unless they are really bad and mine isn't really bad. I want to tell her but I don't want her to worry unnecessarily (and especially my dad since he needs to be focusing on getting himself well right now). I'm thinking i may call her Sunday night and just spill the Beans so that it limits how long she worries about me.

I'm not sure if she'll be positive or negative about it. I know two friends of hers at church had the surgery -- one had some complications, lost a lot of weight and looked horrible and then gained it all back.

My main reason to not tell her though is more for her mental health -- because I know she will be a worried wreck! I think the night before surgery confession is going to be my plan.

Think about the preop process this way. It's like a train once you're on you have to stay on until you get to your destination. If you jump off you just end up at the side of the tracks and you don't know when the next train is coming.

Take your family and spouse to a support group.

I have not told many people, my husband, children and my staff. I also have to have my Gallbladder out that is how I decided to have the surgery, my Dr said he could do both at the same time so I am trying to get everything completed in a 6 week period.

I think you are doing the right thing this time around, there comes a time you have to do for your self, I am finely learning this and becoming a much happier person. If you ever need encouragement please feel free to contact me on this site or email me.

I wish you much success and happiness in your journey.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
