Next group meeting:

Wednesday, July 16

6:00 p.m.

La Casitas Mexican Restaurant

Central Ave. (just south of 694)

Fridley

Hope you can all make it to share your surgery stories and lend support to those who have just gone through surgery and those who about to. La Casitas is on the east side of Central Ave. and just 2 "blocks" south of 649. The group that met this month thought this area would be more central for those coming from outreaching suburbs in all directions.

Just write a reply if you can make it. I'll make the reservations.

Thanks,
Marybeth Reed

(Surgery scheduled for Aug. 27)

Sorry that this may be a duplicate post, but I wasn't sure my original message was posted to the entire group or to the topic chain of just a few people...

Hi everyone, sorry for the absence, had my sleeve 6/19, hardly knew it happened! I have been fortunate to have no pain, nausea, head hunger or other adverse outcomes. Saw my surgeon on 6/21 9 lbs lighter and he commented that it didn't look like I had just had surgery! Then he gave me the green light to travel for a few days, so I flew down to a warm, sunny beach and am enjoying just chilling and drinking (no alcohol of course) and recuperating if you can call it that. I am anxious to get home and weigh in. And you can bet I haven't said that too many times in my life! Looking forward to making the next meeting. Deb

I am wondering if I can get some insight on Vitamins. I think I should start to introduce them into my diet at this time. I'm the one who is getting my surgery done in Mexico, so I don't get much advanced counseling on things like Vitamins.< /p>

Does anyone have Vitamin recommendations? What should I take? What should I not take? What should not be taken together? I know there are many kinds of Vitamin interactions and inefficacies depending on how you take them, with what, and when.

I'm looking forward to our dinner next Wednesday, but if you have any information or a web site to share, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Marybeth

Hey,

I take 7 Citri-cal Calcium petites (to get close to the 1500 mg Calcium they want me taking) - they have 400 mg calcium per serving which is two tablets and they are made with citrate rather than the carbonate which is apparently an issue. I also take one equivalent Flinstones chewable multi-Vitamin and one NatureMade Super B Vitamin. I went with that brand because it gives me the B1 and B12 at the levels they want me to take. I understand there might be issues with interaction between something in the Multi-Vitamin and the calcium so I have to wait an hour-ish between the two and that there is something that is an issue with taking two much calcium at one time. So I take the vitamin, wait an hour start taking three of the petite calcium's. Then about 3 hours later, I take three more petites. After dinner, I finally take the last petite and the B complex. Phew! Sounds like a lot of work/planning but it's easy after setting up all of my meds for so many years...

See you next week and have a great in-between!!!

I am home sick today and cannot make tonight's group meeting. Have only had one response as to attendance, so maybe we should cancel tonight and shoot for another evening. I am so sorry to put a big kink in the plan.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
