Beena,

Everybody is supposed to exercise regulary , maybe a brisk walk for 30 to 45 minutes .Or maybe a gym workout or even a sport you never participated in but always wanted too.

But reality in warmer months i walked 5Km /3 Ml every night and now its cold Sat and Sun 10Km each day.

I should be doing sit up and push ups to tone my body but ......

Am i full all the time, No , But i feel full longer than i used too. And its a different type of full feeling.

Yes it,s changed my eating Habits .I now chew my food .,where i used to bite once and gulp.

The bites sizes that i can swallow are the size of a smartie/ m & m

Also my total potion size is that of a 3/4 to a cup of food.

Some people can and can,t eat certain foods because the clump up and block your new stomach opening.

Will you lose wieght ,more than likely.

BUT remember it,s mathematical.

Less energy in - energy burnt = lost wieght.

If you still fill up on sweets you still wont lose wieght.

BUT I LOVE MY BAND:clap2:

I often feel weird for a few days after a fill, nauseous, a bit of heartburn, shoulder pain, and bad bad gas. It takes me about a week to feel normal again and I always get constipated, although its something I never usually suffer from.

Argh, the edit on this site drives me nuts.

Anyway, for Melbourne people I can highly recommend Gary Crossthwaite and the whole team at the the Bariatric Centre (The Avenue, Windsor), I see Peter Bacquie for fills, he's terrific. You can see Gary at Cotham Private, The Avenue or in Carlton I think, so whatever's easier, although follow up is done at The Avenue.

Hi All,

Blah Blah was banded today. Yay. Congrats.:clap2:

Insubordination, Thanks for the good wishes.

Beena, I would recommend my Surgeon, Mr Gary Crosthwaite.

Mark, Good to hear from you. Vegas sounded like a real hoot!;)

Dionne, it is good to get an update from you. You should be proud of your weight loss so far.:clap2: I would recommend Mr Crosthwaite for you also.

Bron, Well done with your loss also. I haven't had pain after a fill luckily. I hope it all settles down for you.

Jacqui, Now that it is winter are all your fun runs etc on hiatus also?

I hear you re Constipation. I do all the right things to avoid it, but going can be an ordeal after you have been banded, to the point of tears for me.:)

Just want to wish Meredith and her new husband Joe all the best. She was recently married, and she looked beautiful in the pics. Good on ya luv!!!:biggrin1:

As for me, I have been hibernating a bit due to this cold weather. I am well though and on track with it all.

Susannah

I havent actually done a fun run yet this year, boohoo. Couldnt do the Run 4 the Kids as DH was playing golf that day. Couldnt do the Run to the G as we had a special screening of Shrek 3 to go to that day. Didnt do the Mothers day run as Doug set the alarm for 5PM not 5AM and I woke up at 7.20, grrrrr.

Next one is the Melbourne Marathon in October, if I dont get lucky and get a plane flight to Sydney to do the City to Surf for my 40th birthday in August (fingers crossed). I'm tentatively thinking of going for the half marathon, eeek. I can run 12kms so it should be doable for me but I'm afraid of injury if I try to run so far, just not sure.

Oh that's such a lovely photo. It must have been great to have a healthier family on your wedding day. Congratulations. You didn't have to wear sleeves. Yay! Your skin looks so great.

Did anyone watch Mikey Robbins on Australian story? Was pretty good.

Yep I watched it. When he got emotional I think everyone of us that has been obese and have gone through the pain and stress of it all, were tearing up alongside him. Susannah

Thanks Susannah,

Bands in place :clap2: a little bit of discomfort, but I am sure that will pass, and now three weeks of fluids.

Like you Susannah I would recommend the Doctors at the Avenue bariatric centre, I did a fair amount of research prior to getting my band done, and they do a fair amount of follow-up and research, and you are only out of pocket once, if anything happens the band is fixed without any further out of pocket expenses, however they are strict on compliance

This is there web address

Welcome to bandland Blah Blah. CBS are world leaders in lap band placement as far as I am concerned. They are second to none in Australia. But hey we are biased!!!!:

Hello all,

I was banded a little over 5 weeks ago and am SOOOOO happy I have had this surgery.

But :help::help:I was wondering if anybody could help me or advise me on something. I have started running and today a friend suggested that I start taking Protein. Which I think is a marvellous idea but my dilemma is if it is advisable to be placing some Protein powder in my meals? I am not allowed to have Protein shakes in between my meals so I am a little perplexed as to what I should do and how to take it.

Thanks

Reney

I'm a runner and I've never found the remotest need to take extra Protein on top of what I eat. As long as your diet is adequate, you're not going to need to. Carbs are important too, this board is very Protein focusses but I've never got that strong protein message from my doc, I mean they dont expect you to be eating white bread and donuts but they dont have you downing shakes every day either.

A good balanced diet from all the food groups will see you right. And if you're running regularly, you'll probably find you never have any need to have your band so tight that you're not taking in enough nourishment. That's the beauty of exercise.

I just watched it last night. Oh. My. I have always loved Mikey Robbins. Always. What a fantastic interview.

I cried a couple of time during that hour.

Reney. I am a runner too. I don't take any extra Protein either.

I just make sure I eat a balanced diet, otherwise I tend to get a bit sluggish.

Hi Everyone...

Just dropping in to say hi and let you know that all is going well. Im heading under the 80kg mark and i feel fantastic. Ive had a few challenges but im so happy i got the band.

Before i was banded... i mentioned to 2 girls at work that i was having the op (both of them obese). There comments were so negative at the time but.... they are both getting banded next week. I guess my noticable weight loss plus very positive attitude is not only doing me the world of good but also having an influence on others decisions and attitute towards banding.

Take care

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
