I just got banded and the pain is horrible so I'm taking pain medication every 4 hours to keep it manageable.

The other issue is this horrible taste in my mouth. I tried brushing and flossing and rinsing, but it's not going away. Finally I sucked on a few tick tacs which made it better. Will this cause any problems?

Hope you're feeling better soon. Every day should be a little better than the last. If it isn't then let your doctor know.

Is your tongue white? I had a bad taste in my mouth and it was thrush. If you notice your tongue is white go to the doctor so you can get on the meds. Hope it is not that though. Hope you feel better soon.

My tongue is not white.

I've added some liquid Tylenol and Gas-X strips to my pain-fighting arsenal. I guess it's just going to take time to heal.

Don't be a hero, take the pain meds and try to walk. Hydrate and try to get your Liquid Protein in. It should get a little better every day. Major surgery. Hope you're feeling better soon.

I got banded on May 30th so in 7 days it wasn't till day 5 that pain was bearable for me. Never felt hunger till last night. I walked and paced in my house or outside when I want resting. Today I start soft food and I'm truly scared. You got this and I just keep telling myself that this is a journey not just a moment. Journey is going to have some ups and downs. Keep on posting.

So mom just gave me a cup of ice because I am thirsty and not able to gulp Water like before. So I sucked on a few pieces and all of a sudden my mouth filled with saliva and I threw up. Then my nose started to bleed. WTHeck?

Take very small sips of Water. Your probably very swollen still so it's going to be hard to get a mouthful of liquid or anything past your band. Your mouth filled up with Saliva most likely because you swallowed too much at one time. Even if it was melting ice, give yourself enough time for the liquid to move past your band.

Do you get a lot of nose bleeds typically?

If you're continuing to have problems swallowing even small sips please call your surgeon. Good luck. Everyday it gets better.

I love Edy's sf Popsicles that have real fruit like strawberry kiwi and 2 others. They are the best out there.

Also for bad taste I was told the listerine breath strips. I still use them.

I am finally feeling human again. The pain is still there but manageable with the pain medication and I'm starting to be able to keep foods down.

Is anyone finding any humor in this?

I call my banded stomach SP - full name Sensitive Pouch Romajin Stamos without the Stamos.

I ask her, what's the matter SP? Those 2 teaspoons of sugar free Jello won't satisfy the princess for an hour?

My coworker asked me if SP would like a cheese cube or would that be too much for her highness.

I can just picture her on a pink pillow puffing out her lower lip.

Should I cut down on the narcotics??

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
