I just went to his seminar 7-10-14. My BMI is 39.89 I wonder if I will still quality? How was your experience with this surgeon and his staff?

Hello. My BMI was 40 and I qualified. I've had a very good experience with Dr. Scharf and the whole team. I underwent the sleeve and am 10 months out now. I'm 1 1/2 pounds away from my goal weight of 160. On surgery day, I weighed 255. I did have some complications, but I had some problems before surgery that got flared up afterwards.

Post again, if you have additional questions.

Best of Luck!

How long was your process and did you see Melissa for your nutrition visits or did you attend the take shape for life?

How many weeks/months did you have 2 do the nutrition portion?

Did you have 2 see a psychologist?

I think I'm confused on the whole authorization part of it? Loma Linda is my medical group and the authorization was submitted for the dietician? Who approves it? UHC right?

How long was your total process?

The requirements are different depending on your insurance company. I had federal employee blue cross/blue shield. I had to complete 4 months with a nutritionist (I had already started seeing one in Apple Valley and they accepted those visits). I saw 1 psychologist through the program, he was very nice. I started the whole journey in Feb. 2013. I had my surgery in Sept. 2013, but could have had it in June. I needed to make arrangements to be off work and had to work around my husband's schedule.

I have no information about how Loma Linda does their authorization.

I was approved for my consult w the surgeon? I am so confused as 2 how this works! So after my consult I can set up my 3 appointments with the nutritionist. I'm excited! My BMI was 40 on the dot today!

That's great ... once you've met with Dr. Scharf you'll get directions regarding the next steps. You can also contact Melissa with any questions. Congratulations!

This past Sunday was my 10 month anniversary from having the Sleeve. On Monday when I weighed myself I was down to 157.2. My goal weight had been 160. I'm very happy with my results!

Good Luck!

I am so happy and sooo proud of you! These forums are the truth! It's like you know the people posting and you can relate to their happiness! Congrats. I just talked to Angela and Melissa. I am so excited I couldn't even sleep. I searched and searched the internet all night and made a long list of questions for the surgeon and everybody else!!

Congrats again!

Hi everyone. Congrats on your weight loss! I'll be having my first consultation with Dr. Scharf on the 27th after completing my bariatric classes at Beaver Medical. Does anyone know at what point do I get to schedule the surgery? What does the timeline look like?

Also, how was your experience at Loma Linda University? Was your room private or shared? Thanks! :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
