How much Protein are you getting? I don't know if you're still on Clear liquids, but if so, maybe you can try mixing some unflavored Protein powder in with something you're drinking.

I've also heard people say that acid reflux can feel like hunger.

Granted I'm still preop until next week, these are things I've picked up by reading the boards.

I'm five weeks out and my lower stomach just always feels empty :(

My upper stomach feels full

But it's the lower portion

The regular intact part that is probably saying

Hey what the heck is going on here?

I have not had hunger issues, and I am almost 6 weeks out. I will say I have a hard time driving past fast food restaurants with thier damn effective marketing pictures. But 5 seconds later I am fine.

One thing that is really helping is weekly visits with a therapist. I better understand the reasons for my over eating and what I can do about it.

Sometimes surgeons have a tough time relating to the mindset we have pre and post opt. Their talents are quite different. My suggestions is to get a better understanding of why you are hungry. Perhaps it's all head hunger.

Today is day four post-op for me and I suddenly found myself hungry. It scared me at first but I realized as my family was eating dinner in the kitchen that it wasn't because I was 'hungry' but because I had not sat down to a meal and chewed food in almost two weeks. It was completely mental. I realized that it's like when you take something away and say you can never have it again and suddenly I want it even more. It was happening to me right then and there. A couple of sips of Water later I was 'full'. It's incredible the number of times food comes up via conversation, on tv, etc. that make me 'hungry' all of the sudden when I'm not hungry at all. The mental want and need to chew and taste is overwhelming and will take time for me to cope with. I'm trying sugar free gum ASAP. Anyone else find this happening to them?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
