Surgery 05/08/14 & Still port pain

Recommended Posts

I had surgery almost 4 weeks ago and I'm still having periodic sharp pains near my port area. I went to my post op appointment 2 weeks ago and my surgeon said it was normal but its been 2 weeks and I still feel it.

It hurts when I bend over and/or at night when I'm laying down.

How long will this last. The only working out I'm doing right now is walking for that same reason.

If you're still concerned you should call your doctor back and have them check you out. I'm sure you're fine, and it's normal to have some discomfort in that area for a while but sharp pain should never be dismissed and it's always better safe than sorry plus you have the piece of mind. I wasn't able to sleep on that side for a while and I remember it being tender for maybe 6-8 weeks and then of course if you bump it on something it will let you know:-) Keep us posted!

hey band buddy! i was banded the same day as you! i still have some discomfort bending over and when i lay on my stomach to go to sleep.

i have been fully lifting weights for a week, i got the clear from my NP, so that makes it sore some days too.

my NP told me ibuprofen pm would help with the soreness while i sleep. i walk every day at lunch time and bending over to tie my shoe, its still sore.

Thank you Betty!! Now I know it's normal to feel discomfort when I bend and lie down.

I'm thinking I will start the gym on Monday. I finally saw a good jump on my weightloss this morning so I'm really happy!!

congrats! my weight loss has slowed a lot since i've been off liquids. some days it can get discouraging, because i know i'm putting in my work, food and exercise wise, and the scale still wont budge!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
