6/12/14 - Sugery Buddies Needed

Recommended Posts

Hello all!!

Feeling great and finally off pain meds. The meds made me super nauseated and sleepy. I too had a hernia repair. Must be pretty common. I won't lie, I immediately regretted my decision while I was in the hospital but now 4 days post op am very very happy. Biggest concern is getting all my fluids in for the day. I tried cream of mushroom Soup and it's stuck in my tiny tummy and I feel stuffed. Big mistake there- guess I need to Water it down more. How are y'all feeling now that your at home?

Hi Shiner,

I am still on pain meds.fluuds I have not been bad on as I am burping every time I drink or when I walk all the Gass comes out.

Try chicken broth. For some reason after the sleeve it tastes so good. Normally I would be like gross, but it is so good.

I rotate drinks so I am not bored. I drink a sip of Water, then a sip or crystal light, protien drink, and then broth. I rotate the combination, but it seems like I am getting a lot of fluids.

I am still on pain meds, but should off soon.

Have you taken a shower yet? Also does any of your areas fell like they are burning when you get up?

Glad to hear your getting your fluids in! The first two days the left side incision burned a little if I moved too fast. Now it's mild pain at the worst. I've taken two showers since surgery, the first being in the hospital so they could help me the second at home. Showering was really easy, it's putting back on the abdominal binder by myself that's hard. My husband usually has to help me get it right. I still have my steristrips on and I think they are suppose to stay on for 5 full days. I am going to try rotating my liquids and see if I can't get more in. I have the same gas burps with every sip. I did use some of the gasx tongue strips and those seem to help a lot. Anyways- I hope your pain goes away soon! I can say that I haven't been hungry since surgery and hope it's the same for you.

Hey all - I was sleeved on Tuesday, June 10. I spent 2 nights in hospital because I was throwing up from pain meds. They changed the meds and I felt better very quickly. I'm resting a lot - today is 4 days post op, and drinking lots of Protein liquids. I won't go to mushy Protein foods for another day or two.

My sore throat from the tube is much better today and the gas pains are much less.

I'm excited about the next few months and happy for all of us!

I had to stay two nights. Nausea was my biggest problem. Every sip I had, until just a day ago, I would burp. Trust me though once that air starts moving out you feel so much better! I started spotting this morning which is unusual because I had my cycle a week before my surgery. I talked to my doc and he said that it's actually common given the stress our bodies go through. I just need to make sure I stay hydrated!! Anyone else deal with this?

Had mine 6/10 and so far so good. Off all pain meds and nausea/cramp meds etc. Started today on soft foods like Apple sauce, had some Wolfgang Puck Cream of Tomato Soup and that was good but VERY fatty. My stomach was okay with it but my tongue isn't anymore.

In Puyallup, WA if anyone wants to chat about recent surgery and post op stuff.

Welcome! Happy to hear you had an uneventful and speedy recovery from surgery!

Dunno if this has happened to any of y'all but when I have pudding it goes does slow but fine but cream of mushroom Soup lasted in my tiny tummy for 2 hours. Just weird since the pudding is thicker. Still trying to get all my fluids in. Best wishes!!

Yeah, I am good with pudding and Jello. Protien drinks I like to walk and drink as they seem to make me burp. What is odd is I do not like the chocolate and pre-surgery I would only do chocolate. So I am wondering if my taste of chocolate has changed. Also I hated broth, but now can not get enough of.

Have any of you run into things you do not like or now like?

I was May 27Th. 45 married mom of a 16yr old. I am 5'10" and have been knocking on the door of 300lbs for a while now. 289-294 is where I have teetered for the last couple of years. Since my sleeve I am now at 267.5!! Lots of ups and Downs, tears galore, and lots of smell and taste aversions...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
