shrinkingjill 5 Posted June 3, 2014 I was wondering if anyone has been able to follow a "vegan" post op diet and what that would look like. I am eliminating dairy and trying to limit meat. I don't mind eating eggs.< /p> Does anyone have any printables for each phase? Thanks!
WhoKnows 288 Posted June 3, 2014 I think being lacto-ovo vegetarian isn't a problem as long as you don't have any major allergies or restrictions on anything other than meat, but I think cutting out dairy (especially whey protein) could be more difficult. My plan is to go vegan again when I get to maintenance, but in the mean time, I don't feel bad about some dairy and eggs (especially since my overall calorie intake is so low anyway). My personal tip: pumpkin seed Protein powder; it's great mixed in or sprinkled on anything savory, and the brand I use is a complete Protein. I don't know if it's available in the US, but Amazon.com has this one: http://www.amazon.com/Omega-Nutrition-Pumpkin-Protein-21-Ounce/dp/B004L3VLFK People will try and tell you that you need to eat meat, but (assuming, like I said, that you don't have a soy allergy or something similarly restrictive) they're wrong. In fact, my surgeon even recommends meat eaters stay away from meat until two months post-op anyway (though he does have us on purees quite quickly). And now cue the anti-vegan comments... 1 shrinkingjill reacted to this
Photo925 100 Posted June 3, 2014 Thanks for posting this..I'm curious about it myself. I don't really want to be vegan totally but prefer my diet be plant based. 1 shrinkingjill reacted to this
Easterli 12 Posted June 3, 2014 I've seen several people post that they can eat refried Beans pretty early on. I'd prefer not to eat meat. 1 shrinkingjill reacted to this
WhoKnows 288 Posted June 3, 2014 I've seen several people post that they can eat refried Beans pretty early on. I'd prefer not to eat meat. I made a black bean/veggie Soup and pureed it the other day, then added some pumpkin seed Protein powder and had a dollop of soy yogurt. It was quite nice. 1 shrinkingjill reacted to this
pjpanda 129 Posted June 3, 2014 While going vegan is not for me, I don't see what the problem is as long as you find ways to get Protein in. Personally I love tofu (9 grams of protein for 1/4th the block) and am looking forward to when I can eat it again (2 more days) 1 shrinkingjill reacted to this
shrinkingjill 5 Posted June 4, 2014 Whoknows.... that's good to know. I had a feeling i might need to wait until the maintenance phase to get back to plant based. Dairy makes me feel so sick so i am trying to stay away from it. I tried the soy shakes and they were ok. Right now i am trying the Plant fusion chocolate Protein Powder. It's not bad. I will have to try the pumpkin too. That's for the encouragement
WhoKnows 288 Posted June 4, 2014 Just make sure you're getting all the right amino acids! It's difficult to do vegan while still being low carb (hence the waiting til maintenance).
