Second thoughts on sleeve

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for June 23. Too much time for me to think. I'm now considering RNY. Several of my coworkers have had Lap band, sleeve or RNY with varying degrees of success and failure.

Yep.

Each procedure has it's pros and cons and it is possible to succeed or fail with any of them.

My advice is to really understand each procedure and it's risks, benefits and drawbacks and decide what suits you best. Then, committ. I mean really committ to making it a success! It can be done, just focus on the positive and believe in your goals, believe in yourself.

I think being positive is the key. Go into it believing you are going to be successful and that it is the best decision for your health.

Try to make sure YOUR decision is NOT being based on something someone SAID about someone else's outcome (success/failure/complication, etc), rather than what the medical facts of each of the procedures are that YOU know you have researched.

I think some people's decisions are based on the fact that the RNY is considered the "gold standard" of WLS and has been performed for more years than the sleeve. On the other hand, some people like the idea that the sleeve is a less radial surgery (less rerouting of the "plumbing") than the RNY. As you know, both are very successful procedures--it all boils down to personal preference (and, of course, physician recommendation). With either, full compliance with changing eating habits and lifestyle for the rest of our lives is identical.

Sleever or RNY?--Good luck in your final decision. I know it's a mind-boggling one. . .

Thanks everyone. I tend to over analyze everything. My Dr said that I'm a good candidate for either procedure and left the decision up to me. If it makes any sense I'm afraid to be too small, not that I know what that is I've been over weight my entire adult life.

Personally for me, I didn't want the RNY because I did not want them to touch my intestines. I probably wouldn't have had the surgery if that was my only option. There are also a number of problems with certain foods afterwards and I did not want that dumping syndrome.

For me, choosing the sleeve was easy. I am bipolar and the surgeon explained to me that with the RNY there is a chance that my medications will not be absorbed properly. With the sleeve, everything is absorbed as it should be.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
