MrsGlo, I am so glad to read that you are doing well. I always read your posts when I see then, because you are always so positive. It is amazing how little we need to eat now. Keep up the good work

Hey Miss Trisha,

How are you? Yes girl it's splendid to find that I can eat normally now without gorging myself with stuff that's bad for me. Now I'm satisfied with less and I'm looking and feeling better than ever. We all are doing well and I'm proud of the decision we've made to change our lives for the better. Continued success to you too, have a blessed day!!!

Hello,

My name is Natalie. I had RNY on May 19th.

Upon discharge I was on the puréed diet for three weeks. I was tolerating everything fine, with the exception of milk--so I switched to soy. About two days before the three weeks was up, I was SO SO tired of the puréed foods and bc I figured I was tolerating everything well I would move on to the next phase (despite not having my first follow up... Bad I know)

So I tried baked fish, and a little salad. Everything was sitting well, and I thought great!

Well, starting Monday of this week, I haven't been tolerating hardly anything! It started on Monday when I threw up my salad, about an hour after eating it. On Wednesday, I had a small banana and I almost threw up right before my first exam in my summer course. Yesterday I had a few sips of Water and almost got sick.. Today I was having some Cereal and now am still riding out this bout of nausea.

It is disappointing to feel I am moving backwards, and concerning bc I am not getting the hydration/nutrition I need.

Does this sound like it's part of the "healing process"? Or a possible complication (stricture)?

I feel like I'm gonna see how the weekend goes and call my dr on Monday....

I'm worried about this :/

I think your body may be telling you not so much that you're moving backwards, but moving forwards too quickly. Bear in mind that internal healing is significantly slower than external healing. I would avoid the salad in particular. It's been a while but as I recall, salads were not on the menu for at least three months and possibly six. Many folks also do not tolerate fish or chicken for some time, especially if it's too dry. Strictures are not unheard of at three weeks but probably more common a little further out. You may want to stick with the pureed until the doctor gives you the green light. He/she may even want to move solid food back a little given the difficulties you've had.

This will all likely be in the rear view mirror before you know it and nothing more than a minor bump in the road. That said, it's a good idea to check with your team. That's what they're there for.

Congratulations on your surgery. You're gonna love the new you!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
