Calorie intake @ 6 weeks post op?

Recommended Posts

My nutritionist told me that I should be between 600-800 calories by 5 weeks...the most I've had is 712 & I keep my carbs under 30...but I'm not losing an ounce & am getting quite grumpy (that's a much nicer word than what I really am) about it...grrr!

Ive been the same weight for 3 weeks & to me it just seems to early to have such a stall.... Any suggestions? Anybody else stall this early for this long?

I'm really frustrated & just a few steps away from a pantry that contains an open bag of golden Oreos...(I just proofread my own post...that last part sounds like a wls patients equivalent of jumping off a bridge...dieting suicide, not dramatic at all) ;)

Hi,

A typical day for me 10 weeks post op and I consume between about 700 and 1,000 calories a day with a few select days I can hit 1,200 and you can imagine why LOL. My one stall I had was what I thought associated with reintroducing sodium to my diet and it only lasted for about one week.

Of course I think it may be a gender thing too but I see more and more early stall posts on here usually by women. I am not a doctor so not sure if this is a hormone or gender thing or what but I've had only one week where I lost a single pound, a few weeks where I lost just a couple and a few weeks where I lost a lot (6-15) so I can't say I've stalled yet...

I hope though that you recognize that every week you don't gain weight is a positive thing as well. I think most of us know that feeling all too well. My only advice I can post is to stay the course, you did this for a reason and stall or no stall you owe it to yourself to keep on plan and keep trying.

The founder Alex posted an ezine article about plateaus and if I remember one thing you can do is to change up your calorie intake. Try like 300 calories less or 300 MORE. Vary your activity level. Vary the type of food you are eating and the times you are eating it and finally like I said and it's in my signature weight loss is a marathon not a sprint so keep running!

Hope you stay the course and I wish you the best in un-stalling :)

Thank you so much, Odesa! I do need the reminder that it's a marathon not a sprint...but couldn't it be a half marathon? ;)

Great suggestions...I'll try to stick around 400 calories the next few days & then bump it back up on Thursday...fingers crossed that my weight is affected & my logic returns...I appreciate your advice!

I had a stall at 3 weeks as well. I was not eating more than 800 calories, and did not lose any weight for 3 weeks. I am now 6 weeks post-op and the scale is moving again. In my opinion, I think it was just my bodies re-acclimating themselves. In the last 2 weeks, I have lost 6 lbs. In my case, I was also very sedentary, not moving and not exercising much.

Everyone is different. I think that if the scale is not moving up, then you are doing something right. Just wait it out. Try not to weigh yourself often. And the scale will start moving again ;)

I am also 6 weeks out. Thankfully, I have not had a real stall yet. The scale just never moves fast enough for me. I usually eat 5-600 calories a day but 2 times a week I get up to 800.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
