Is Ibuprofen a no no forever or just after surgery? I have a killer headache and Tylenol isn't touching it. I wanted to try something else but was afraid.

Hi I would check with my doctor, I was informed that I could not take any thing but Tylenol. Good look my friend.

Nsaids can compromise the lining of the stomach reducing bacteria fighting elements resulting in ulcers. And ulcers tend to find their way to a pressure point such as the band site. So, most doctors ban Nsaids. Sorry, Tylenol sucks!

@@amber81499 How long ago was your surgery and what type of surgery did you have? I personally take Advil when I have a headache or muscle pain when I need to.

As a banded person it can make the band a bit tighter, though that is not always the case. I have not had any issues with stomach upset from taking it and vs feeling being miserable and having an upset stomach due to Migraine or headache it's a toss up.

The best advice though is to of course call and check with your doctors. When calling always express to them the extent of the pain you are experiencing and the fact that you have tried the Tylenol first so they take that into account :) Feel better!

Yep definitely call your doctor and follow their advice

My surgeon only states that care should be taken with regards to NSAIDs. They are not off limits but I need to be careful. I get bad Migraines and Tylenol doesn't do anything. I take NSAIDs for my headaches/migraines. Again follow your doctor.

I have arthritis and it can really flare up. My surgeon has no problem with patients taking NSAIDS -- I've asked over and over again but I hesitate because of all the side effects. Today I saw my beloved PA who I've not seen since pre-band and she totally agrees with my NSAID concerns -- bleeding intestinal tract, potential band issues, etc. She prescribed Cymbalta for long-term pain management. I just can't be in this much pain and function well, so we will see how this works. It's also used for anti-anxiety. I'm giving it a two-month trial.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
