I had some nutella and ice cream after my Soup and cheese this evening. I am 5 weeks post op tomorrow and I know that I didnt do perminant damage and i certainly don't even feel THAT full but I feel so guilty!

i haven't been perfect this entire time but I also haven't gotten sick and i have lost over 20 pounds so far. I make sure to eat my Protein first as much as possible and try not to eat and drink at the same time. But how come I feel so miserable now?

I had a bad evening and found out I owe 600 bucks to the government for my taxes so I came home and had the lapband equivalant of a binge. No sickness but I just feel like I may never unlearn my habits. Does the fact I am not full and craving more food mean I need a fill ASAP or just that I am a lapband failure and I am never going to manage to be thin?

I am scheduled for April 30th to get a fill but I just feel like I am sitting here undoing everything and cheating when I should be motivated and enjoying life...I need to rant and know what other people think/feel for support.:help:

DO NOT count yourself as a failure!!

I am quite disturbed at your statement:

“Does the fact I am not full and craving more food mean I need a fill ASAP or just that I am a lapband failure and I am never going to manage to be thin?”

You are extremely hard on yourself. DO NOT count yourself as a failure!!

We ALL have problems with our emotional hunger… if we didn’t then we would not have needed the Lapband!! It is OK to have a temporary lapse in food judgment. You were stressed and in normal fashion you ate to soothe yourself. It is natural to feel miserable after “cheating” but that is because you know how hard you are working to change your life.

Remember: It is very easy to learn an addiction and VERY DIFFICULT to UNLEARN it. Give yourself time to make the psychological change.

DO NOT count yourself as a failure!! You CAN and I an sure you WILL succeed. You have obviously been trying for the last 5 weeks… You have already lost 20lbs and that is GREAT!! Keep up the good work!

Don’t forget to praise yourself for the hard work and great job you are doing! Don’t just beating yourself up for the temporary lapse in food judgment.

As for the not feeling full that particular night… I think your mistake was eating Soup first. liquids go straight through the band and do not fill you up. You therefore had extra room for the Snacks. Not to mention that ice cream, once in your body melts and, like the soup, goes straight through the band. So, of what you ate, it was only the cheese and Nutella that COULD have filled you up.

If you are experiencing “not full and craving more food” on a regular basis then yes, you are in need of a fill.

Ok, I know… long winded, but I hope it helped.

Thanks guys. I realize I was being hard on myself and probably a little melodramatic too but it is frustrating to flounder so early in this journey. Today is a new day but I definitely have a sweet tooth and am trying not to indulge it too much...so tricky!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
