I just don't know what to do...

My first day of the two-week liquid diet is on Thursday, and my husband has planned for us to meet three other couples at the KC Royals game far tailgating and the baseball game. I'm just not sure how I will feel that first day! I might be just fine...I might be a hungry psychopath...I just don't know!

I'm just nervous about being put in a situation on my very first day where I'll want to eat. The good thing is I can bring in unopened bottles of Water, so I can bring my crystal light flavoring and possibly a Protein Shake.

Ugh...should I go?

I agree with LipstickLady. Your new life begins now and you might as well learn how to live in it. Instead of worrying about food, just enjoy everything going on around you and socialize. Keep your eye on the prize. You can do this.

Do a trial run or start early. Concentrate on the experience, the company ect. You have (at least) five senses. Practice using the rest of them. That's where life lives. Good luck!

I think you should go. Well, I wouldn't, but that's just because it's the KC Royals, ha. Sorry, had to.

This is what you're signing up for. You can't just become a hermit and not go out with your husband. Eating lifestyle has to change, but we still have to maintain a social lifestyle, especially with your husband or significant other. I believe things like that create tension which leads to the divorce rate among married couples after surgery. Life goes on, you gotta go with it.

I would skip it. You need this particular diet so your liver will shrink and surgery will go easier. It is too important to risk not doing it well. You can worry about overall life style later. Right now is the time to focus on you.

I don't mean this offensively but in my opinion, it was pretty inconsiderate of your husband to schedule this get together. Perhaps you need to speak with him a bit more on exactly what will be required for the next 2 months. He must not understand it fully. Best of luck to you :)

This is a life style change and from this day forward you will change. You will watch people from here on out eat things you can't. So it is a good chance to get use to it and learn to say no.

Thanks for your input!

I want you all to know that I'm fully aware of the lifestyle changes I'm about to make. My issue is putting myself in this situation on the very first day, not knowing how my body will react to not eating solid foods.

My husband is very supportive of me and this decision we've made. He just didn't realize when he made the plans that it was the very first day of liquids only.

Again, thank you all for your input! I'm able to see it in many perspectives now! I'm going to ease my way into all liquids. I think it'll be ok, but my husband knows that I might back out! And I'm not going to feel bad if I end up backing out!

I haven't gotten sleeved or gone through the pre-op diet yet, so this may not be helpful. I was researching pre-op diets and found some Isopure liquids. Some of them looked clear, but had Protein in them. Could those be used right before surgery to shrink the liver? I'm thinking you might feel more satisfied with those liquids because there is a substantial amount of protein in them.

i would go and take something with you that is allowed during your pre-op.

personally i love the nectar mixes. they mix with Water and look like a crystal light. you can actually add some crystal light also to make them taste even better than they are.

on ice in a nice glass it is like having a light cocktail! this could also be your chance to share with your friends about your upcoming surgery if you are inclined to.

i would go, take something with, and use this platform to have some last minute fun before your big day!

Listen to your heart on this one. You already know it's going to come up again and again - so no news there. You could go and gut it out, or know that you'll have lots of time to do this other than the first day of your pre-op diet. If you feel like it'd be a recipe for slipping, then stay home with a headache that day. Another thought is to start the preop a day or two early so you'll be more invested and more used to it. I started mine on a sort of half-way plan a few days early, so I could ease into eating less and drinking more than i was eating. It really helped. Good luck - either way remember you are the one who gets to decide and chart your course for your future.

You'll live to tell about it. I like the idea of a couple of days quasi head start, and taking a couple of Protein Drinks with you, since they will be a little more filling.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
