I have read here that some people vomit after there sleeve surgery. My question is wouldn't that rip the staples from our stomachs?

I am a bit fearful of leaks after surgery.

Leaks are extremely rare -- maybe .5% to 2% of all VSG's, depending on your surgeon. So even if you do vomit or dry heave after surgery, your chances of getting a leak remain very, very small. And I would think you would have to vomit A LOT for there to be enough effect on your staple line to have an impact on whether or not you get a leak.

Initially, I dry heaved a lot. When I started eating, I couldn't manage all the tiny amount of the food that I measured, so I vomited then. Occasionally it was only saliva, occasionally a little food. It taught me to slow down and stop at the first sign of feeling full, even if food is left on my plate. This is not the type of vomiting one experiences during a stomach virus--it is tiny amounts in comparison and not violent heaving. It isn't pleasant, but it sometimes takes a while to learn what you can handle.

I only vomited a handful of times - and I would say it wasn't until I was a couple of months out, on solid foods and perhaps feeling a little cocky... well really I was eating too fast. I apparently had not sufficiently broken that bad habit.

I was so paranoid - in the early weeks and was very very careful. Be aware that you can;t really feel everything in those first 3-6 weeks so I ate "by the book" measuring everything and watching the clock to know when to eat. I felt that was the best way to avoid accidental overeating in those initial weeks.

I am 2.5 years out and never vomit (I did constantly with the band) so I guess I have learned something finally!

I've never vomited in the 7 months since my surgery. I tend to have that reaction to anesthesia, so I made sure to request anti-nausea meds as a matter of course.

Of course, because I just typed that I'm due for a little barf-o-rama here now.

So far in my first month post op I've barfed once, and I really do believe it was just a reaction to the item of food I ate. I took three tiny bites and just knew after the third that I did not feel well at all and it came back up. I think the meat was just too fatty and my stomach said "girl heck no, stoooooop!" In my experience, this was very much how I reacted to something pre-surgery that my body was not into. I feel the bile in my cheeks and am running to the bathroom.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
