What should I expect before and after being sleeved??

How was the liquid diet for people?

One of my friends states that she had a drainage tube put in during her surgery and it was removed before she was released from the hospital; did that hurt or does it hurt??

How long were you in the hospital?

How long was it before you could start having sex?

How long should you wait before getting pregnant?

I know its a lot of questions lol but i really want answers because I am nervous. My 4th weigh in is June 30th.

wow, rdy4chnge14 that is alot of questions, well I didn't have the sleeve, I had the bypass, and to start off answering your questions, some of these you should really ask your doctor, I also heard about the drainage, and some doctors do it and some don't, mine didn't, and I was happy about that, but i guess it doesn't hurt coming out just feels weird? As for food after surgery, you really have to play it safe and try different things, and see what works for you, everyones body is different. I couldn't drink the Protein drinks after surgery? They made me sick? I haven't tried them since, cause i don't want to be sick??? I was only in the hospital for one overnight, and I couldn't wait to get out of there, cause the bed was awful, and then when I got home it was great!!! lol, I was in pain for a little while and I had a lot go on after surgery that I didn't anticipate, but it is what it is, and I recovered well, I am post surgery 2-1/2 months, and I am down 45 lbs. I had staples in my stomach after I had the surgery and so sex was sort of painful couldn't get in a good position but after 2 weeks and the staples gone, I been good!!! lol as for the getting pregnant thing, I asked my OB about that, cause my fiance doesn't have any kids and we want to have one together, and she said I should wait atleast a year - 18 months after I have the surgery before we try? So I would again ask your doctor about that. Good Luck!!!

Okay.. well the pre op diet was one of the hardest things for me. You really have to have your mind in the right state. I was emotional before, I think it was all the nerves just building up. The day of surgery wasn't to bad. There is so much going on with getting you prep for surgery you really have no time to think and then I was given meds to calm me down and I was completely out of it. I forgot I was getting ready to have surgery. After surgery I did not have a drainage tube but I did have a tubes in my belly to release medicine in there. Not sure what it was called. Didn't hurt when coming out, it just felt extremely weird. But I pulled mine out myself a couple days after I was released. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days because I wasn't getting enough fluids. It was hard to drink for me. For sex I waited about two weeks, just have to be careful and not to crazy lol. I'm waiting to get pregnant after about 15 months. Hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
