Weepy at 2 1/2 weeks

Recommended Posts

Hi all......I was sleeved about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I thought I was doing OK....I've been following my diet recommendations and getting in as many liquids as I can. The last 3 days or so, I've been feeling sad and weepy. I have heard that many people suffer from depression after the surgery, but this seems so soon to be feeling blue. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am lucky where I haven't experienced any complications thank goodness and my recovery has been smooth.

I have not been sleeved but I have heard of this...don't worry excessively about it, I would say its temporary...as you start losing weight and exercising you will feel great, God Bless!!!

@@beachplum -- make sure you're moving around enough -- try to get out in the sunshine -- meet with some friends or something so you don't isolate yourself. It takes more effort to do those things right now so soon after surgery but getting back into "normal" life (if one exists) will help you get over the blues quicker.

There are hormones in fat. It isn't inert. I'm sure there is a science-y person here who can explain this better, but basically your visceral fat around the organs gets mobilized first. This is good because even though it's less visible, it's the most dangerous (says my gastroenterologist); the visceral fat is more hormonal (?) than regular fat, so when you're losing it, it's dumping a stew of stuff into your body. He said lots of Water intake helps, and since your lymph system has to process some of the toxins, he said swimming and walking really help lymph movement. I thought it sounded plausible.

Awww. Positive self talk, try to think of all the good things like your family and friends, the sun, it's summer!, your weight loss. Keep yourself busy.

I haven't experienced that yet but I would say it's because you just divorced yourself from food. That's how my therapist explained it. A literal divorce from food.

Thanks everyone for the positive answers!! I got out and about today in the sun and got a lot of stuff done, and no tears at all today! I am sure that it's the loss of food.....my old comfort. Plus, I agree that it could also have something to do with losing fat and the hormonal changes that go along with that. I'm sure this won't be the last time I feel weepy, but at least I will know how to battle it.

Well traci, are u getting enough good Proteins and Water? If it is nice outside open up you house and let the fresh air in. It may be that you need to force yourself to get out. Once you do it may help you feel better. Also are you doing your daily walking so your body can get moving and heal better? Sometimes your body and mind just need that push. Thd more active you are and the better you are eating can make a world of difference. This is a new life and it's time to live it!! You can do this!

I was weeping like a baby 5 days out! My fiancé was making burgers and they smelled so good. I was upset because I was still on liquids. I began to second guess myself wondering if I made the right decision getting sleeved. It's like going through a break-up but with food rather than a person. I felt like I was getting mind-effed everyday(excuse my language but its true!). II tried to prepare myself for this life change but I don't think you can really truly be prepared until the day comes when you physically can't eat what you want when you want it! It helped my spirits tremendously when I was moved up to pureed food so keep your chin up!! There is a light at the end of the tunnel ;) And as many others have said, getting out is truly helpful as well!

I agree!! Getting out of the house has helped immensely. I feel weak some of the time, but I don't know if that's a reality or just in my head because I know I'm not eating a lot. I am still feeling weepy from time to time though. I just try to tell myself that it's temporary and will pass. :)

I miss the social aspect of eating. And I think my husband misses it with me. But the weight loss and change in quality of life that I will get from this far outweighs any food I may be missing ????

We all must remember too that as we all reach our goal weight many of the foods we love will be available to us. We can all still enjoy eating just about everything, it just wont be by the huge plate full. I am 5 1/2 months post and i am enjoying taking my kids out to eat. I am just more selective and take the majority of it home. Its nice for a couple more meals and already cooked! Just warm amd go. Dont look at somethimg and say we will never be able to eat it again but rather we will eat it again but under more control. Good luck to us all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
