Just wondering what everyone does for exercise? I recently joined a gym, but besides treadmill or 30 min. fast track room, I'm kind if at a loss for what to do. Guess since I've not been much of a person to work out until now, it would explain my loss for what to do. I know that working out will be critical after my surgery, June 17th, and probably should incorporate weights do I don't have as much "flab" (for lack of a better word) as I loose weight. Any direction would be appreciated.

I was sleeved May 2013 and my wife exactly 2 months later...I'm 117 lbs. down (at goal...yeah baby! :D) and my bride is 80 lbs. less the woman she once was (almost to her goal!).

My wife does strictly cardio (walking/swimming), no weight training. I do only weight training, with the exception of weekends, i.e. mow the lawn in the morning, then spend most of the day in the pool, albeit more lounging around than swimming! ;)

I copied a standard workout routine from some bodybuilding website and just follow it. Chest on Mondays, arms on Tuesdays, legs on Wednesdays, everything else (shoulders, traps, lats, back, etc.) on Thursdays, chest and arms again on Fridays.

My wife is going to start hitting the weights with me tomorrow, in an attempt to jump start her current stall.

I think you'll find, as the lbs. come off, exercising (regardless of type) will become so much easier...and addictive too!

Good luck on your journey! :)

Right now I only do cardio, since I am not cleared for weights for another two weeks. Afterwards I intend to work my way up to about 45 minutes of cardio, followed by weights. I when I was doing weights before surgery, I was always making sure to work opposing muscle groups on the same days. Chest/back, quads/hams, biceps/triceps etc. If you are a true newbie to weights, you can use the machines at your gym. You just adjust your weight plates and follow the instructions on usage.

Most gyms have someone who will help you map out a workout. Ask the person at the front desk.

This is another reason I'm super stoked about the program I chose, you get a 60 day membership for you and a support person at a gym for free and it includes some personal training sessions. And you have a year to use it.

I do something every day and I like variety. I run 4x a week now for a total of 26 miles a week. I play in a tennis league. Now that the weather is nice I go for bike rides or kayaking on the lake with friends. Sometimes I do Zumba/Bollywood dance class (which is total blast!). I do a pilates reformer class 1x a week. I bought a kettle bell and do 20 rep sets of swings at least 4x every day in my living room (you don't have to do them all at once, hours apart is still just as good!) I also have the good fortune to live in a quaint village wherein I can walk to everything including the train that takes me into the city for work, so I probably am walking at least 2-3 miles every day on top of everything else.

Personally, I think the key is to find at least one thing that you actually enjoy. If you go to a gym and some trainer gives you a work out to follow and it's not stuff that you like doing, you probably won't stick to it. I also think that just adding a little extra here and there--take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator, walk to the store instead of drive, park your car in the far away parking spot and walk the distance--all of those little extras really add up over the course of weeks and months. And there's no law that says work outs have to be boring and in a gym--running/biking/hiking/kayaking are all great exercise and you get to enjoy the outdoors!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
