weight loss plateau after sleeve? Is it normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on April 10. Since then I lost 10kgs (20 Ibs) in the first month. I seem to be stuck on 95 kgs since May.

Has anyone faced weight loss plateau in just their second month after surgery? Im eating according to the diet prescribed and no more then 1200 calories a day.

I would really appreciate other's insights or anyone else who seemed to be facing similar problem?

Thanks

Karen

Hi Karen82,

I suggest searching the forum, there are tons of posts regarding plateaus at 3-4 weeks and so on. Lots of info at your finger tips on BP!

Congrats on your first NSV! :P The dreaded plateau! And yes, you can expect to see several of them in your future. In the past 18 months, I've gone through so many I lost count. It's a normal part of the process as your body adjusts to your new way of eating. One thing I've learned, if I just stick with my eating plan and walking, eventually the weight loss will start again. And yes, it is frustrating as Hell to have to wait it out! B)

How long did these plateaus last for you?

Did you do anything differently to get passed by them?

You can try going back to an all liquid diet and exercising more, but it may not work.. if it doesn't and at times it won't, don't get discouraged. That's when you look in the mirror and notice inches coming off. Your clothes fit looser. Non scale victories are pretty awesome and reassuring too.

I was a 3x a few months ago, as of Today, I'm an XL or size 16 top and XL or 18 bottom. My highest weight was 247. Today I'm 200. I'm 5'2" so that's still alot to be carrying on my petite frame. It's all in my gut, I look pregnant.

Thanks.Marmello

Trying my best not to fret too much about it. I dont expect 20 pounds every month but a decent 3-4 pounds would certainly be nice. I guess i just want the scale to keep moving rather then being stuck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
