That Facebook group -- JUNIES 2014 -- was up for one day and then mysteriously disappeared. I'm really disappointed, because I want support everywhere I can get it. But I guess this forum is kind of the same thing, right? Just that Facebook is so much easier. Anyway, I've written a bunch of emails to god-knows-how-many-people about getting the F'book page back up, and now it's July 5th...so I think we'll just have to congregate here. I had my band + plication done on Monday and the recovery has been okay and mainly boring. There is a psychological component to this that nobody addresses. Or maybe it's just me. I'm gong to drag my fat ass to an O.A. meeting this afternoon; my doctor (surgeon) says they are the best support groups and perhaps it's time I get some real (as opposed to virtual) support. You?

I had my surgery on Monday, June 30 -- lap-band with plication (stomach sewn in ½). Anyone else had that surgery done? I guess we're all different anyway, but my biggest side-effect is that I'm going buggy! And I know the only way this is going to work is if I have support from all kinds of people -- even those I know only virtually (like in this group). My son, who is in high school, is a big jock and thinks this whole thing is "ridiculous" and if I just had the will-power he has, I wouldn't need "this stupid surgery." So he is the opposite of support! But I'm going to be going to O.A. groups starting today (courtesy of my doctor's recommendation -- he thinks they're great for emotional support). liquids have been working fine -- in fact, I'm kind of scared to start eating Actual food one of these days (a month?)...but I'll get to that neurosis when the time comes. Would love to hear how you other newbies are doing. Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
