Hi all,

This has not been an easy journey for me. I was sleeved on 4/23/14 and suffered from cramps, spasms and vomiting in the beginning. That changed to no energy and irritability and semi depression. I am still not getting in all my Protein, the shakes are all too sweet, and struggle to stay hydrated. I was just finally able to start my Vitamins on Friday. To top it all off, I'm not losing weight. Ive lost 30lbs since I started the pre-op. I am so discouraged and disappointed I just don't know what to do.

Focus on getting hydrated and getting your nutrients up and the weight will follow. Plus, 30 lbs in probably a month and a half?? That's a lot to lose to say you're not losing!!

Starspring--Sorry to see that you are struggling. But this is now June and, assuming you are healing well physically from the surgery by now, it's pretty important that you are nourishing yourself better than it sounds like you are. Have you said these words to the bariatric team in charge of your post-op care? It's their job to help you--bug them until you are on the right track. If you feel you need help with depression, talk with a therapist. It might be that a short-term anti-depression could help you. Or, if you have ever looked into relaxation techniques such as meditation or just simply belly breathing, those things can help alot.

You probably have no energy and are irritable and feeling depressed because neither your body nor your brain are getting the nutrients they need. It's hard to fight for ourselves to do what we know we have to do, especially when we're not feeling up to par, but it's what we HAVE to do. We are the ones who have to find a Protein drink that ISN'T too sweet for us; we have to find a way to get the liquids in that we are required to have. If swallowing Vitamins are a problem, there are alternatives--there are bariatric approved chews and liquids. The challenges of bariatric surgery are MANY. But you CAN tackle them. You must begin tackling them, and the other ones that will come up, so that you can have the good quality life that you expect as a result of choosing to have WLS.

I am not allowd to swallow a pill yet per my surgeon. As for the liquid I vomut them right back up. I was just able to keep down the chewables Friday. My dr keeps telling me I'll feel a little better every day, when I expressed my concern about the shakes and staying hydrated the answer I got was....we ALL do. I guess I won't be asking anymore questions here either.

@starspring "So, it's only 10lbs in a month and a half."

Please eliminate the word only from you vocabulary. Now you have "So, it's 10lbs in a month and a half" And while that might not be the numbers you are looking for, it's still 10lbs. And add me to the list of people here saying please focus on your nutrition. Have you explored Protein waters?

I hope you start feeling better real soon, and this all becomes a distant memory.

Be well…

I felt better at the three month mark. I lost slow. But it really wasn't that slow. I wouldn't even watch the scale for acouple weeks. Surgery is a shock to the body and it needs to heal. Everyone reacts differently. Unsweetened almond milk has Protein and some Fiber. Syntrax and Isopure have unflavored protein. I used fat free milk the first couple of weeks and now I use Water with the powder. It will get better. I got a Vitamin b shot at my primary doctors office to feel a bit better at first. And those you can get once a month. I hope you feel better.

You seemed to have lost a lot pre op so it seems that the quick stuff already came off pre op...the Water weight. After you lose the Water weight, it does go slower. Also, since you were sleeved so recently you may have got in a stall. A lot of people stall around week 3 and takes a bit for your body to adjust then it starts to go down again. 10lbs is 10lbs...at least its going down! Keep up your spirits and I agree with others, you must get the nutrition and calories in or your body will fight you for every lb....starvation mode.

I am starting this process. Star Spring.. who was your MD? I want to ask the same questions you did regarding what you are going through. Everyone is so supportive though. Hang in there.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
