Picking a Surgeon or Clinic in Minnesota

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am new to this forum. I was wondering if any of you have opinions or resources on how to pick a surgeon or clinic in Minnesota. I know that the mayo Clinic would be a good place to go to. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I would go to Park Nicollet personally. Why? I have been an employee there for 8 years and I had my surgery 3 years ago with Dr. Thomas Jones. :-) Best decesion I have ever made.

I too would recommend Park Nicollet/Methodist Hospital. They have been nothing but professional, and are a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. I had Dr. Thomas Jones do my surgery. He has been with Park Nicollet since the late 80's and has done numerous bariatric procedures. He has also been voted top Doc in Mpls St. Paul just about every year in a row. His personality is delightful; not stuffy at all!

You won't regret a decision to use this team of experts!

I also highly recommend park Nicollet and Dr Jones!! They are fantastic! The program is set up very well and they make everything simple to complete. Everyone I have worked with there from schedulers to nurses to hospital staff and doctors have all been amazing! Dr Jones is a great surgeon! Rated a top doctor for general surgery for a few years now. I actually requested him when I needed my gallbladder out and he fit me into his booked schedule when I needed it moved up a few weeks. He's a very caring and competent surgeon! His WLS stats are great which he's happy to share with you. I am extremely happy with my decision to go through them!

I live 1 hour North of Park Nicollet and I still recommend it to anyone who's looking for a whole team of people who get it and are so friendly and professional. Their psychiatric help is top notch!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
