McButterpants 2,846 Posted May 31, 2014 I started losing at 2 months and it's just now slowing down at 6 months. I've lost a lot - some days it was horrifying the amount of hair I lost. I see a lot of new re-growth though, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. It's making styling a challenge. I had to go with a shorter cut because most of what I lost was on top right up front, where my bangs used to be. I use a product called Toppik - it can fill in those really thin places. My stylist didn't even know I was using it until I told her. It works just like the website shows. I take (doc approved) Biotin and Folic Acid. I use Nioxin Shampoo. I focus on getting in my Protein. All the things the doc says to do. She also said, "Anything you lose due to the surgery, will grow back." There is light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there! 1 LindafromFlorida reacted to this
nx4slim 18 Posted May 31, 2014 Just curious, Are you taking Inositol and Biotin Vitamins? Many people and my surgeon have recommended this to me.

LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted May 31, 2014 I am taking Biotin , B12 , Vitamin d and my multivitamin.I took all this and no help. I have very fine, thin hair and it is awful. Started at 5 months and now at almost 7 months worse than ever. It is worse around my face. I just spent good money on 2 wigs because I am trying not to use heat on my hair, and wash it so often. I use good products but guess we weather this storm and thank God I look better with 60 lbs. gone. Leaving in a week for a 7 day cruise (my husband booked for his birthday) with my 2 wigs, and thank goodness I won't know anyone.
On2Living 8 Posted May 31, 2014 I haven't had surgery yet but experienced this a few years ago when I lost 50 pounds in a short time frame. Toppix didn't work for me but it may be due to having blond hair. I took Matrix 5000 and it seemed to help. http://www.amazon.com/Elon-Matrix-000-Vitamin-tablets/dp/B000F5PM4E
ualaw08 270 Posted May 31, 2014 I am 5 months 10 days out. Have not lost a strand ( more than normal shedding). I attribute my luck to supplementing my diet with juicing. No scientific proof just sharing my experience.
MichelleInCA 22 Posted May 31, 2014 Are you taking Iron, too? My doc has me on 200% recommended daily dose/day to prevent Hair loss. Some (most?) Multivitamins don't have iron so you may need a separate supplement. 2 LindafromFlorida and Branmuffin reacted to this

mbissi 1 Posted May 31, 2014 I am not taking iron! What do you recommend and where can I get it ? Also, does it stop and grow back:)
TonyaNKy 79 Posted May 31, 2014 Are you getting in your Protein? At least 100 grams a day? That's what my surgeon said would lead to hairloss.
Scylla 106 Posted May 31, 2014 Are you getting in your Protein? At least 100 grams a day? That's what my surgeon said would lead to hairloss. 100 grams a day is an awful lot! Mine said 60-80.
MichelleInCA 22 Posted May 31, 2014 Slow FE is a good, small Iron pill that is time-released. I take Flintstones chewable multi-Vitamins with Iron -- they are the only ones I've found that have Iron. Then I take my B Vitamin at a different time, once per week. I take Calcium and Vitamin D at different times each day from the iron. I think you're not supposed to mix iron with Calcium but really I have no idea! I've also heard Protein is very important. But then the nutritionist said they don't really know why rapid weight loss causes hair loss in some people. I don't think it's completely understood medically. TonyaNKy 79 Posted June 1, 2014 I guess all surgeons are different. Mine said a minimum of 70 but shoot for 100.
