Shocking TLBC news

Recommended Posts

Yeah...it is TLBC....not the "Dr J clinic".

Good luck Doddie...I'm sure it will go well, as you know, Dr Y is awesome!

Thanks Yoda: TLBC referred me to a surgeon here in Vancouver and he is the one that diagnosed my flipped port. But he can't get OR room in BC unless it is an emergency soooooooooo back to Dr. Yau. Must say I am happier to be going back to Dr. Yau. His placement of the band has been problem free except for the flip. Will find out from him whether or not he will anchor the port or not. The Doc out here wants it anchored so he doesn't puncture the tubing. He doesn't have access to a fluroscope (sp?). Talked to the head nurse, about to anchor or not achor and there are pros and cons to either situation so hopefully Dr. Yau will set me straight on what to do. Doddie

To tell you the truth I think that Dr. Yau is a good bet. He is younger, cuter, and he has many, many years of band work left in him.

LOL: I agree, but I can only look as I am far to old for such a good looking man. But I can dream can't I. ( I did not dream up the flipped port to get an appointment with him,h onest)

Hey there!

I was just sharing withone else on another thread that I am getting bit nervous. I am only on day 4 of my pre op. Needless to say I have lots of questions/concenrs etc. I emailed Jill tiwce and just did not hear back. I emailed Kathy about something and also didnt hear back (I only emailed her Friday though)

So it makes me wonder how rough things might be after the surgery.

Not really a great first impression to me, especially being someone sooo new to all this.

I fully understand I am not the only patient and need to be patient but I would just think I would get a call back after few days of my email.

I did call today. I am just waiting to hear back. I was told that it was better to email as they repond quicker to that, so thats what I did.

I can only look, too. I am 57 and rapidly drifting towards 58 and I have a mate! Looking is good. As my mum used to say about my dad, "if he isn't looking, then he is no use to me." :)

Miranda: I am 63 and I don't believe in e mails for such serious topics. Call and keep calling every ten minutes. When you get the operator, tell her you are not happy and want to speak to someone in particular the head nurse. You could also ask for Chris Henderson, Chief Operatin Officer. I was very insistant and was put thru to the head nurse and had my concerns dealt with. Had my appointment date given to me, expressed my concern about anchoring and got my answers.

I appears to me that business people are inundated with e mails, text messaging, voice mail, etc. etc. Obviously they are overwhelmed by the deluge of electronic messages. So I rely on the "old persistant" method. Using the telephone until I get a live voice.

Green you sure had a wise mom. Doddie

Miranda - Last week was also the Bandster Bash - both Jill and especially Kathy were heavily involved in organizing that. Yesterday I did not feel well at all. I started having pains on either side of my lower abdomen on Wednesday of last week. By sunday it was really bad, especially when I walked. I had a very impt meeting on Monday so went to work. I called TLBC (Daryl, the head nurse) to ask if this could possibly be related to the band. I left a message and she called me back with 10 minutes! She told me it could be gas etc. I ended up in emerg because by 2:30 I ws doubled over in pain. The Dr. was a bit of an a$$hole when I told him about the band, (why didn't you go there? why come here?) but they did bloods, xray and ct scan. Everything is fine with my band, but I did not realize that I wasy EXTREMELY constipated. Backed up so to speak. I have been taking prune juice but I think it is not enough. I will get some benefibre today.

Anyways, the point is I have received great Customer service. Do not be afraid to call reception and ask if someone is in, or if it is a surgery day and that they might be very busy. Do not hesitate to tell them if this is an emergency or whatever you feel that you might need.

Good luck Miranda - in my opinion you have chosen a great clinic and it will be great.

p.s. I am glad I am not the only patient with this huge crush on Dr. Yau! LOL

Thanks Susan!

I just actually cleared up the issue. She has been trying to email me but something is wrong with her computer. Sooo we had a nice chat today. I am feeling good!

I am sorry to hear about what happened to you. I would have been scared to death! I guess thats something you get use to after a bit. Ever little ouch you wonder if it has to do with the band.

Im glad everything is ok! :)

I have to say you have peeked my interest in Dr. Yau ;)

Hey susansilver dont be too upset (i know it sucks) but it happens, i believe i've been to the ER 2 times in my life and it ended up being Constipation. as for benefibre, yeah its great doesnt taste like anything or change the consistancy of your drink. What i did was poured a couple teaspoons in a big juice container, so that way when i drink the juice there is already fibre in it. Not that it's hard to add it as you go, but...thats what i do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
