I'm getting SO excited! My surgery date is 6/19 and my pre-op liquid diet starts on 6/5. I just had my final appointment at the surgeons office and everything went great! I feel better about the pre-op diet, but honestly that's what I'm most scared about. I can have 5 Protein Shakes a day, plus 48-64 oz of other liquids daily (up two 2c broth, sf Jello, sf, Popsicles, any sugar free drinks), plus they want me to have 8 oz of fruit juice daily for calories. They said I should lose 9-15 lbs during this time. Surely, if I get through the two weeks, I can handle the surgery! I'm pumped :)

I told my kids today (ages 9 and 7) that I will be going to the hospital in a few weeks so that the doctor can help me get healthy. They had some good kid-friendly questions for me, and I think I handled it pretty good!

Another thing that I'm excited about is not having to refill all of my meds I take daily! They think I will be off of everything! Yay! ????

Wow, sounds like you are really excited :) Do you get emotional? I get sleeved on June 30th and when I made my travel arrangements I was so emotional I just started crying. I'm not scared or anything but I sobbed lol The diet info you gave is great because I wasn't really sure what all the liquid diet consisted of or how much of it per day. I think I will try a few different Protein shake during this time and try to pick a favorite.

Hi Pamela! I don't normally get too emotional...Zoloft is good for that ;)

I think I'll be pretty cranky during the 2 week diet, but that's different than emotional lol.

When I met with the nurse today, she told me I need to pick one kind of shake (one brand) and stick with it. It just dawned on me that she said that, but I don't really know why! Maybe I should call about that, because you would think one brand would get pretty old after a while.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
