Sleeve surgery in 4 days!

Recommended Posts

I'm a 30 year old wife and mom of 3 kids(9,7,&4). With each pregnancy I gained a few (or 25) pounds. The weight stuck with me and now I am 5'4" and 237 lbs. I'm super nervous about the surgery itself and the recovery afterwards. Also, I haven't followed the pre-surgery diet like I should have! Any words of encouragement would be helpful!!!

Good luck on surgery day! It's totally normal to be nervous. It'll be over soon and you'll be on your way to your new, healthy life. Just follow what they tell you to do and you will heal quickly, and without any complications. Most people are told to get up and walk as soon as possible after they get back into their rooms after the surgery. The more you can walk the less gas pains you'll have. When you get home, Protein and Water are more important than focusing on that number on the scale for now. . .

The surgery was 10 times easier than expected, one night in hospital, one dose of pain med at home, and shopped in 2days. Have not slowed down since. I am 67 years old and my husband too, and it has been wonderful, absolutely no problem. We also both had hernias repaired. My weight loss is 60 lbs, and he has lost 90, in less than 7 months. Warning, it will be harder with kids and food in the home. We can pretty much eat anything now, we just don't keep bread, sweets and Pasta in the house. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
