What month did you first try carbonated drinks?

Recommended Posts

Was accidentally given a carbonated drink instead of tea at a drive thru and I drank some of it not knowing it. I was SICK! It cured me from wanting any more. That was about 2 months out and I am now 5 months.

I sipped some almost-flat diet sprite and just didn't really like it. I can't drink it fast enough for it to quench any thirst or particular desire, so aside from the occasional idle sip to swallow a pill (you know, forgot my own Water so I'm swiping my mate's drink).... Meh. No real need.

I also sipped some beer ("here taste this!") and it bubbled a lot more than I was comfortable with - yuck pooey!! I commented politely on the flavors of the beer (now that I have the worlds most sensitive nose) and no more needed.

In all of my courses and with my surgeon carbonation was a forever don't...thank God I am not a soda drinker. But I was also told by my surgeon and his residents that there seems to be a gateway drug to regaining your weight. Carbonation! Typically in the form of soda. It's just a pattern they have noticed. This applied to all the weight loss surgeries they offered. Every doc is different though...

I wonder if that is a direct link to the sugars in soda, the possible stretching of the sleeve from the carbonation, or is it that the patients willing to indulge in the biggest no-no of all are also the ones not following a lot of the other rules and eating off plan? Hmmmm....interesting.

To be honest I had some Diet Coke mixed with Jack Daniels about 5 months out. I also had a glass of champagne at a celebration dinner with my wife. Other than that I have not had a carbonated drink at all

I am in my 11th month out and haven't had anything with carbonation. We were told that the carbonation will stretch the new stomach...that's enough for me! I LOVED Pepsi and thought how could I live without it, but I have. I have had no desire to even think of having any sort of soda or carbonated drinks, there are plenty of options out there. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
