I would wonder if there has ever been a comparison on Hair loss between the different surgeries.... Sleeve vs bypass vs band. Any one know of such a study?

The book says 40% of people on average experience Hair loss . It's the luck of the draw as to who those people are!

Eat red meat as soon as you can. Real Protein.

Whatever they tell you to take as an Iron supplement? Quadruple it.

I lost a fair amount of hair. The moment I took that advice, it abated - tremendously.

Biotin?

Just made my belly and thighs hairy

I'm a bandster but still applies because many bandsters have lost hair, however, I never did. Can't tell you why but I followed my doctor's orders and all is well. I'm three and a half yrs post op and below my goal weight.

Between menopause and having hypothyroid disease ( that went undiagnosed for at least two years) I went from super thick hair to very thin. I am getting it cut very short this summer..that way if I lose more once I have surgery it won't be as noticable.

I was banded in 2005 and NO hairloss and NO hair thinning, I was recently band to sleeve 2014 and so far No hairloss and No hair thinning!! Good luck, Im hoping I do not lose any hair as well

I'm with msfitn2014. I was banded in 2009 and never lost any hair and was sleeved in April and still have a full head of very thick hair. I have the natural shedding that comes with this time of year, but that's about it.

Good luck!

Wow, thanks everyone. I will take your advice to heart and look into taking more supplements. I'm

only taking a Multivitamin right now, but I am eating red meat everyday for the Iron. I'm glad to

know some people kept their hair, I really hope to be one of them!

I'm pre-op and started Biotin since it's supposed to help with hair loss (at least according to some people)... one nice side effect -- my fingernails are growing faster than ever and very strong. Who knew???

Biotin does not help with losing your hair, it only helps with hair and nail re-growth. :)

Post op Lap Band I lost hair. Post op Sleeve I lost hair. I imagine I will again Post op Bypass. I know for a fact that Biotin has helped my Hair growth by a lot! My hair was taking a long time to grow back but several weeks after taking it I started getting baby growth all over my head, and my nails became stronger too. I take it several times per week, and my hair is back to full strength and I have a ton of it. Oh and it never made my hair grow anymore than normal in other areas of my body, but then again I'm Asian. Ha! I only have to shave once a week but that's only because I want to, not because I have to.

I lost massive amounts, but, while receiving many compliments on my newly evolving body, nobody ever said "what the heck happened to your hair? it's horrible!!" At 2.5 years post op... the garbage cans full of hair is just a distant memory....

My point is that we can get kind of worried over these things (understandably) but could probably benefit from just relaxing a bit and realize that in the end things will work out. Eat as best you can, take your supplements and then let the chips (or hair) fall as it may...

I've lost at least half my hair volume. Have taken all recommended supplements and so forth.

Interestingly, my hair and nails are growing insanely fast. So I might end up with only 3 pieces of hair left, but hey they'll be long.

I am 5 1/2 months out - around month 3-4, i had some minor hair loss... i have always had very thin hair... but what Hair loss i had, you couldnt tell at all. and now its just a few strans after my shower or on my pillow case... no idea why i was spared & my fingers are crossed that it stays this way... About 3 months before surgery i hacked off 10 inches - figured i would get use to short hair in case it did fall out...

my advise, try to relax - it will be what it will be... it will grow back... best of luck to you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
