I am 5 months post op next week. I began my journey at 315 and am about 225 today. Most importantly, I feel wonderful.

I had a sleeve performed by Dr. Thomas Umbach in Las Vegas. I used BridgeHealth for insurance purposes though I have BCBS of Illinois. BridgeHealt flew my wife and myself out, provided a beautiful hotel which happened to have free continental breakfasts, they gave us $800.00 for food and incidentals, paid 100% of my surgery costs and when all was done gave me a $1000.00 credit on my healthcare spending account. If they could have done more, I sure do not know what it would have been. Dr. Umbach and his staff at Blossom Bariatrics in Henderson (south Las Vegas) were attentive, caring and more courteous than anyone could ask. The doctor has developed his techniques so well that I had zero pain or nausea before, during or after. I felt so well the evening of surgery that I should have taken in Donnie and Marie on the strip. They kept me in town for a few days for post op review, questions and such and sent us back home feeling extremely blessed.

I am not losing weight every week but I am still losing. I track what I eat in my MyFitnessPal app. My 6 month followup will be in July. I am anxious to meet with my primary doctor. It was she that lovingly said to me last year that I needed to consider surgery.

If I can encourage anyone, I would feel honored to do so. Send me a private message if you feel the need to ask anything personal.

Nice to see your positive and uplifting 5-month story. Congratulations on your decision, your surgery, and your new lifestyle! Certainly much credit goes to your surgeon; however, due credit belongs to YOU as well. YOU are the one that makes the sleeve work by your compliance to all the changes in your eating habits and the choices you make every day for the rest of your life.

I hope you continue to follow Bariatric Pal and update with your progress. There's an amazing community of caring people here. It is comprehensive resource for answering your questions, learning new information and WLS lifestyle ideas, gathering opinions, and being surrounded by people who really "get it."

Take care.

I am 4 weeks now without the loss of a single pound. I am stressed about that. I am eating about 1500 calories a day. I need to make a change today!

1500 at 4 weeks? I can't even get 200 at 6 days. I think you need to talk to your nutritionist

My Vitamins and two isolate Protein shakes add up to 390 calories in one day. My problem seems to be in the evening when I might eat 800 to 1000 calories. I have been eating primarily Beans and salads. My downfall at the moment is saltine crackers which I do not need of course. I think I will forgive myself and be on track soon. Maybe I am just being too hard on myself. I was just hoping to have lost 100 pounds by next week. It appears I will come in at about 95. I need to be happy with that. Thanks for letting me vent.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
