Hello,

I was really worried about it to but it's super easy. They just ask you questions. And make sure your not suicidal.

I agree with Greene. The evaluation is simple. It seemed to want to make sure your self esteem is OK, you are not suicidal, and are realistic about what the surgery can and can't do for you. Just relax and be honest

Mine was pretty easy as well, she also looked for stress that might prohibit success and eating disorders. (Besides overeating)

Wellll I'm just going to tell mine that I know the surgery is a tool, and I don't expect it to do the losing for me. I'm ready for the healthy lifestyle. I need energy again, I'm always tired.. I lose breath quickly and I feel dizzy when I lose breath ( urggggg ) are you ladies from Ny ? If so do any of you have Health First ????

Mine was easy-peasy -- just had problems with the doc not faxing over the clearance letter for about 5 weeks -- ugh

I saw the psych that I've seen for 8 years -- treated for depression and bipolar. I don't think I've seen anyone on these boards who got denied the surgery for psych reasons. I think the only thing you could "fail" on would be if you have some major eating disorder that you're not in treatment for.

Some people have to fill out long questionnaires and have more stringent evaluations than I had but I wouldn't stress over this too much. If you're honest about answers and admit your problems, you'll do fine.

I jokingly think that if you're smart enough to be on these boards asking questions and looking for help with your problems, you can pass the psych eval.

Best wishes!

I agree with Ginger Snaps, if you are asking questions you are smart enough to be ok. :-) I did know someone that was denied on the psych eval; they said she had too much stress in her life to make such a major change. But she was able to go back later and they approved her.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
