surgery in two days!!!

Recommended Posts

Well, I have made it through the two week pre op diet without eating anything that wasnt on my list from the dietician so I feel really good about that. I am stopping my drinking 15 minutes before meals and for a hour after meals so I feel pretty good about that. I am taking small bites and chewing chewing chewing so I feel good about that! BUT, I am freaking out at the thought of surgery in two days and all of the emotions that come along with that. I have to say that I am not really craving any foods but being on the low carb diet I am understanding why I am not craving food all the time. I am just in the same boat as all the "I AM SO FREAKING NERVOUS" cuz its almost here and I hope I dont die...dont have complications....dont bleed....dont have lots of PB...dont have lots of sliming...dont dont dont dont......OK..WOW..I feel a little better now...thanks all for listening...Deanna

Deanna, the surgery was a breeze for me. I had a little nauseau that was taken care of by the prescription my doctor gave me. I took Gas X strips for the gas. The port site was a bit sore. I was back to work in 5 days. I would say the surgery was easy. I was nervous like you. I had a complete breakdown 24 hours before surgery thinking to myself "how did I get here". I didn't really mourn food at all. I was just upset at myself for letting myself go for years. You will be fine. I love my band now and I wouldn't want it any other way. Julie

It is scary to go into a surgery that you opted for. It is scary to be put under not knowing if that is it. It is normal for you to feel this anxiety. I was on the boards all the time freaking out about all the what if's. I was also about to jump off my gurney when they were wheeling me into the operating room.

I woke up.... I was alive.... I was sore.... But when you get to your room, stand up for the first time, and understand that it will be okay. You will think "I anguished over this?" lol

I wish you well with your surgery and recovery. Well done on your preop diet! You should be so proud of yourself!

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Autumn

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
