It shows on the bottom of the page it's this year's publishing (2014) however I don't think some of the things are correct, ie: in the 'differences' section where it says the sleeve is done laparoscopically and the bypass is not. Is there anything else not correct on here?

Gastric sleeve and gastric bypass can both be done via laparoscope; nowadays, that is the most common technique. "Open" procedures are usually only done if there are other complicating factors (hernia, adhesions, extreme obesity) that keep the surgeon from being able to visualize the landmarksneeded to do the surgery.

I don't know who/what is behind that particular website, but please be VERY cautious about "discount" procedures and be sure to get a 2nd opinion AND a contract.

I am STILL having to deal with attorneys, insurance, etc. even though I had a signed contract and had PRE-paid for surgery. It has been a major source of stress and I don't even have a bariatric MD to go to now, because the office staff has made me feel so uncomfortable about the money issue. I just pray I don't have any problems down the road.

Great advise.

Maybe I should have copied and pasted just the wording, not the site. I hope it's not violating any rules! It was one that I got from someone and saved and just now looking at (I already have a great Dr) and didn't like that it gave bad info.

That is an advertising page so, it may be all they do at that particular facility and looks like they are pushing sleeve hard so they may not do RNY at all....

"No chance for complications typically associated with malabsorptive techniques, such as Dumping syndrome. - See more at: http://gastricsleevenow.com/gastric-sleeve-vs-gastric-bypass#sthash.5R7ZfFNI.dpuf "

Not true. Some folks who have the sleeve experience dumping just like some folks who have the bypass experience dumping. And some folks who have either surgery never experience dumping. Dumping is more common with bypass than with sleeve but both can result in dumping.

So of the four advantages attributed to the sleeve, two of them are completely false.

There are a lot of very good sources of bariatric surgery information available on the net - this site is not one of them. You might find one or more of the following sites useful and there are many more. It pays to choose your sources carefully.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
